Walt Disney & Money!

We often hear the Walt Disney quote, "Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money." Other Disney quotes leave us with the impression that money was low on Walt's list. Well, in reality money was at the very top of his list. For example Walt also said:

"Biggest problem? Well, I'd say it's been my biggest problem all my life. MONEY. It takes a lot of money to make these dreams come true. From the very start it was a problem. Getting the money to open Disneyland. About seventeen million it took. And we had everything mortgaged including my personal insurance."

Of course, Walt didn't mention in that quote about his privately owned company. You see, Walt Disney Productions was the public company that Walt and his brother Roy ran. It was public in every sense of the word. However, in the 1940's Walt created WED Enterprises which was solely owned and operated by Walt himself. WED was the home of the Imagineers and it was a cash cow for Walt! Roy Disney had no ownership in WED. Walt Disney Productions had to pay WED as an outside contractor and they paid through the nose!

Roy and Walt actually had several loud and heated arguments about WED because Roy was just fed up with dealing with the outrageous prices they charged. Roy wanted to go out for competitive bids, but Walt wouldn't allow it because WED was putting big wads of cash in Walt's pockets!

LOL!

"After the premier of the re-release, company head Michael Eisner was heard to say, "How can you watch this? There's almost no computer animation!" To which a soon-to-be-ex-employee responded, "Well, some people use their imagination."

Best part EVER
