News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

"We wouldn't want the public to ever get the idea that Walt Disney Productions was getting greedy. Our good name is all we have..."

- Card Walker, Disney CEO (1971-1983)

Unfortunately that "good" name has now become a "go" name as it has steadily disappeared over the last few years. Not much longer and it will be totally gone if they keep these games up. Once it is gone... it is very hard to get back. Everyone has a limit to what they will put up with and to keep pushing that limit will only have more people spending their vacations and money elsewhere.

Amazin the PD's still think WDW has their best experience at the front of their thought process. You are a cow waiting to be milked. This was brought up years ago and the PD mindset was "never in the world" but lookie what happened. They joined the real world where $40 parking and $25 "resort " fees are common.
Welcome to the real "world", they not only do an obscene overcharge for the rooms they now tack on "fees" to boost the bottom line. @WDW1974 posted that this would happen years ago. Ye of little belief should not be surprised.

I have faith in our Pixie Duster's. They'll surely find a way to explain how this is a good thing, and we should all shut up, accept this, and get back to planning future vacations so their lord & savior Mickey can continue to feed.

Did you ever consider Annual Passes were never meant to be used in such a manner? Why shouldn't people who visit more pay more?
That's an idiotic statement. Annual passes gain their value at two trips of 4 days or more. Eliminating a significant benefit such as parking (not suggesting that's what they're doing) changes the value of that dramatically.

Annual passes allow 365 days of access to the theme parks with complimentary parking. For that, guests pay a premium.

Known about this for a while, I’ve heard the same thing this week, though I’m not sure this will be in place before Spring Break. This next quarter sure, but Spring Break seems to be a little odd. The parking lots aren’t set up for it yet.

I’ll include a link to the original post I made more than a year ago:

https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/rumor-wdw-resorts-to-add-fees.924149/

But I can confirm that this is absolutely real.

Do you anticipate your previously reported schedule of costs to remain largely the same?

As a self proclaimed pixie duster I can say no. This will be the straw that breaks this camels back.

The premium being a nominal charge above 2, 4 day passes?

Anyone who needs more than that would certainly pay it for a couple vacations. APs are far underpriced for what you get. It's one of the last loopholes out there and we all know what's happened to every other money saving technique over the past 15 years.

You need look no further than Tokyo for how ticket pricing looks for a resort that's full all the time.

Is anybody surprised? Compared to some other hotels, the fact the Disney never charge for resort parking was always surprising.

Not when they have absurd room rates for compared to the industry and they own more than 25,000 acres of property. Parking charges in cities for hotels are understandable with high costs related to parking structures and property taxes. It's laughable to use the comparison there.

I Generally agree with you on a lot of things...

But this is as backwards sounding and patently incorrect a thing as I've seen. This is going straight to the hall of fame.

Didn't you just lament how people can pay hotel rates not a couple of hours ago?

Do you live on a bluff overlooking the Jell-O Sea, by chance?

ANNUAL PASS...from the Latin anum...meaning one complete revolution of this tiny, greedy Spacerock we cohabitate.
On a given day, a night at the poly costs the same as an AP. There's something drastically wrong with the pricing if you step back a moment. The person paying for the poly is an idiot. The person buying an AP is smart. And the person staying at the poly is about to pay $20-30-? More.

Where are all those who last year said this would never happen?

Edit: As a DVC owner, and with family members holding current APs, I'm definitely awaiting details on this. If at least DVC doesn't get free parking, there's going to be a PR nightmare.

oh you think dropping upwards of 6 figures makes you special? your just a peasant like the rest of us (sarcasm)

This is hardly surprising. $50 per car is what I am hearing. And bank on it being $100 within 5 years as Disney gets easy money. On top of the $200 park ticket that we will be at very soon. And don’t forget the rumored extra charge just to get into Star Wars Land. Probably another $50 “Extreme Pass” needed to experience the new Star Wars rides.

This makes my head hurt. 20 years ago, stuff like this would be incomprehensible. Walt would be turning over in his grave. To spend $1000 for a family of 4 just to get into a park for a single day, oh my.

I know several people here in the O-Town area that are AP hoders and vlog the parks resorts on youtube weekly. Some make enough revenue through youtube ads and viewer donations that they are almost able to quit their day jobs and go into full time reporting of park and resort happenings. To them this is so much more than a vacation but a career and means of support. To say now that even though the have APs purchased as so many of us do, but now have to pay to park each time they want to vlog a resort is obsurd. The high cost of AP ownership should cover parking at resorts. That is why it is a higher charge to begin with. This entire thing is sick.
So you're saying that an AP is such a good deal you can monetize it to the point you can quit your job(and write it off on your taxes) and that paying to park would somehow be unfair?

Wow. $50.

In that universe an AP should be $2,500
