I wish I knew how to keep SSE and the sky from being washed out. . .

Washed out skies - it's a common problem for all of us Chuck. A few suggestions (not specifically for this one shot):

If your camera has exposure controls - you can probably under-expose the shot then apply selective exposure adjustments in post.

Crop the image so the blown out sky is cut off.

Compose your shot differently to include less of the sky.

Expose for the sky then use flash to compensate for the subject.

Or do what a lot of us do: shoot more during the early morning or late afternoon hours when the light is less harsh and you get the beautiful gold to blue colors. In the middle of the day when the light is really harsh we just head inside and shoot the dark rides.;)

Any one else have other suggestions?
