WDW Performer Arrested on Child Charges

I'm reading the posts and reply and can't understand how any of you can say "If he's guilty". He confessed to having the on his pc, he admitted to having the pictures and brought police to show them what he had, I'd say that's more than a confession. Guilty, no need to assume.
This is the second person within months who has been charged with a crime that works for Disney. I doubt Disney could screen for this but damage control has to be working overtime.

I'm sure he probably had a clean record, but just because he had not yet been caught.

Thankfully his roommate turned him in. He may not have acted out on his fantasies, yet, but who is to say 5-10 years from now, he just might.

I agree, the witch hunts can be crazy anymore. In this case, it does sound very much like he's guilty of possessing child ography. He needs to be punished, he needs to be rehabilitated. And yes, he needs to work somewhere that does not involve children.

He's a performer...So send him to Broadway and put him in another production that is not something kids would go see. (after the punishment and rehab)

Creepy, but not at all surprising. I met far too many sexual deviates working in Disney entertainment during my time there.

 If this is true, doesnt disney screen employees? also, imagine the girl that played Beauty, too.!!!! poor thing.

Hate to say it, but it doesn't matter. The article said he had a squeaky clean record. That's what's scary. A lot of people get away with a lot for a long time and they're never caught. Disney could've screened him til they're blue in the face, but there would've been nothing tipping them off about this guy because of his clean record. At least the roomie had the grapefruits to say something to the cops.

Child and molestation are two different things. Thankfully the guy has been caught before Disney has had to deal with lawsuits for "The Beast" or "Goofy" indecently assaulted my child

Sadly, Disney does not screen every employee.

Unfortunately in this case, it wouldn't have mattered if they did, or didn't.

This is really sad. Disney has no way to screen for this sort of thing, unless hard drive screens are put into place :lookaroun Thankfully no child was assaulted, or potentially assaulted. The problem with crimes like this is that if they don't have a prior record, he'll be let off with a slap on the wrist, and it's most likely to happen again. I don't think rehabilitation is as effective as it should be. But he should be given the chance to try and get better. Not that I condone anything he confessed to in any way, shape, or form - especially as a mom to 2 young boys. I just wonder how many others there are at Disney like him :hurl:

In my experience you can't be too careful anywhere or with anyone. It is ashame and very :hurl: .

All our character experiences have always been what they should have been, so this will not affect my view or enjoyment of past or future WDW vacations. I feel that so far WDW has handled this situation as they should be handling it.

Although it is pretty evident that he is guilty, everyone deserves a fair trial so, I will start this next sentence with..... In the event that he is guilty, I hope that he was coopertive with the police because he wants help. And, I do hope that he will get the appropriate help that he needs in addition to an appropriate punishment.

There must be something with The Beast.
Broadway Actor Charged with Having ______ with Minor

NEW YORK (AP) -- A prominent Broadway actor, known for playing the beast in Disney's family-friendly ``Beauty and the Beast,'' pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he had sexual contact several times with a 15-year-old girl - including once in his dressing room.

James Barbour, 40, was charged with five counts of criminal ______ acts and sexual abuse against the teen back in 2001. She came forward earlier this year before the five-year statute of limitations expired.

Assistant District Attorney Maxine Rosenthal, speaking at the hearing, said prosecutors were aware of a second case where Barbour allegedly had sexual contact with another underage girl, in California. Defense attorney David Smith said there was nothing new about any of the charges.

``These are the very same allegations he was aware of several months ago,'' said Smith. ``... We were aware of the second allegation as well. That occurred over seven years ago.''

According to prosecutors, Barbour was starring in the musical ``Jane Eyre'' in 2001 when the girl's high school drama teacher arranged for the girl and her parents to see the show. The girl came backstage by herself after the show, and the actor began sexually touching her, prosecutors said.

There was allegedly another incident with the same girl during a dinner at an Eighth Avenue restaurant, and a third in his apartment on the Upper West Side, authorities said.

I can just imagine a Dateline NBC "to catch a predator special" with Chris Hanson at WDW. Just imagine the Beast walks into IASW and Chris walks out and says "Have a seat" with the Beast saying "I swear this is my first time." Also kiddie often leads to molestation and recurrence rates even after "rehab" are extremely high. Chemical castration works well though.

They can be found anywhere. Its amazing who those types of people are. I had a co-worker who got arrested for that and we were all in shock.

IMO the offender should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. I'd have more respect for a murderer than this guy. Children had to be hurt and have their innocence stripped, not to mention scarred and changed for life so this guy can get images of of them in ways they're not supposed to be.

I'd do more than "jump all over his case" if I had the means. Somebody has to put the kids first and I'd die trying. Get real people, face it and stpp trying to rationalize him.

I'm sure this may get edited or deleted but I don't care in this instance.

knowing how so many child molestors were molested as children themselves, I never quite understand the bloodlust people have for making molestors suffer. Don't get me wrong, I'n not a total bleeding heart liberal. If this guy is guilty of owning kiddie , even if he's never personally abused a child (it's not like "merely" supporting child molestation is any better imho) he should be punished. I just don't derive any glee from it. It's a social responsibility, and people who get riled up and sensationalize issues like this only serve to enhance the perverted thrill molestors get from ther crimes.

I agree, although there are many cases that are so malicious it's very hard to relate to... and it's also easier for us to feel so understanding when it hasn't happened to us, probably.

Has it ever been proven that looking at leads to sexual crime? I agree that since having child is a crime, the owner should be punished, but I don't think we should start jumping to conclusions about the safety of the woman who plays Belle, or the safety of the children in the parks. I have pictures of flowers stored in my computer. But I never buy cut flowers, and never cut any of the flowers in my yard. Shoot, I don't even smell them - I have too many allergies. This is America. People are innocent until proven guilty. He is charged with having child on his computer. He hasn't been charged with anything else, and hasn't been convicted of anything. Let's not start an modern day witch hunt here.
Sounds like everyone is trying to say the right thing. Lets not forget that possessing child is a CRIME. If you consider that he had the , he was in effect saying that he approves of child molestation. The child/children in the certainly weren't having the time of their lives, and if he didn't buy it, circulate it etc...the market for that type of thing would go away. Some crimes don't need the benefit of the doubt, he is guilty of possessing child . He is guilty. He should be locked up forever on that crime alone, period, end of story.

I have always been a Gaston fan. I never knew what Belle saw in Beast. Hopefully Gaston will take her back. Boy is her face ever red.
