It's the end of the line, for both the attractions and the extras tournament.
I feel like the narrator on Maelstrom: "Yeeew are not the firrsht to pass this vaay."
This path does indeed seem to be a familiar one. The semifinals in both tournaments showed results that are nothing new to us bracket veterans, as the big dance has the chance to crown the same champion for the third straight year, while the extras tournament will see a rematch of last year's title tilt.
Final Four results in both contests were as follows...
Big dance:
IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth def. Kilimanjaro Safaris 13-9
Splash Mountain def. Haunted Mansion 14-8
-------------------
Extras tournament:
WDW Monorail def. Blizzard Beach 15-7
Polynesian Resort def. Contemporary Resort 15-7
--------------------
So we have the potential for two repeats on our hands.
In the Big Dance:
Splash Mountain is NOT invincible. In fact, it came up short of the title both times during the two year stretch where Zac and DarkImage ran the tournament instead of me. But all three times I've organized it previously, Brer Rabbit has cut down the nets. Now Splash is in position to win its third consecutive title and fourth in six years. If that happens, that's what we call a dynasty, folks.
But I'll cut the coronation talk for now. After all, one scrappy competitor still stands in the way. IllumiNations literally came within one vote of losing in the first round to Wishes, but I gave it the tiebreak win. Now here it stands one win away from the championship.
And so it comes down to one of the most compelling dynamics in all of sports (err, pretend theme park sports). This is quite simply Destiny vs. Dynasty. You make the call.
In the Little Dance:
The monorail breezed through last year's bracket and could end up doing the same this year...but some credit has to be due the Poly. After all, you don't make the final round two years in a row by accident.
Time to settle things for another year...your championship matches:
IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth vs. Splash Mountain
&
WDW Monorail vs. Polynesian Resort
Let the voting begin!
