WDW in August

Hi everyone,

I am going to the world in just under a year for three weeks at the beginning of August 2010 and already I am SO excited. I have been wondering about the crowds at WDW around this time and have read that they are relatively light when compared to June and July. Can anyone tell me what experience they have had of WDW in August?

Thanks for any posts in advance :D

We did WDW in August 2006 (1st-22nd).

Week 1 was quieter than we'd anticipated (we were expecting the summer crowds to be similar to those experienced at Easter). Weeks 2 + 3 were busier and lines longer.

Florida schools go back sometime in August but there are plenty of other folk keeping the parks busy

The main problem is the August heat.

i think the first week you may still be busy, for example the only schools that start early are ones that get approved. there's a thing in florida called save our summers, it mandates that schools can only start so many days before labor day by law. Some school districts with high rankings, can get approved to start earlier. I know my daughter starts august 10th this year b/c our distict didn't have any "F" schools and were in compliance with all audits.Sorry for the babbling, my point is that there will still be alot of locals on summer break the first week of August.

The good news is that you will be there for 3 weeks, so you can work around crowds. Go early in the morning (EMH if you are staying at a Disney Resort). Then leave when it gets crowded.

August 10  That is crazy your poor daughter. I heard of schools starting in August usually towards the end of the month (around the 20 give or take a couple of days) but wow the 10. When was the last day of school May 1. I think August 10 is too early. Okay end of rant

August is good time to go but I prefer the end of the month. It a little less crowded. But still Hot. (those arent tears it my sweat lol :p):o

We went in 2007 and are due to go August 2009. I think we got really lucky in 2007. We saw 1 thunder storm in 14 days and no other rain. Got a great video of it on the i4, lightning everywhere! I have been watching the forecast this year and so far it seems wetter so I am betting that it's not going to be all blue sky this year

Whether it rains or not August is hot, hot, hot. We live in the UK. Today it was 13 degrees here in the middle of our summer and it rained all day! So for us when we step off the plane we sure know we have arrived.

Like others have said the queues are huge, especially at MK on Saturdays. We made the mistake of going on a saturday last time and you couldn't move. 60 minutes was the average queue time and it was impossible not to be hit by baby trollies. :fork:

If you are staying at a resort make the most of extra magic hours or if not go early in the morning and late in the evening. Go back to the pool mid afternoon and chill.

we have been waiting 2 years for our holiday and the last 6 months have been agony. Don't envy you dude.

Thanks again everyone. There are some mixed reviews of August that I have found but the one constant, as shows in this thread, is the heat. Never been in August before so any advice is always warmly welcomed.
