WDW Hotels and other locations on DVC points

How can I find out how many DVC points it would take to stay in locations other than the DVC resorts? I know you can stay at WDW Hotels, and other places all over the world, but how do I know the cost in points? I'm not a member, but I am looking at the possibility of renting a vacation from a member in other than a DVC resort.

It generally costs a lot of points to stay in places other than a dvc resort, however, if you order a free copy of the dvc book, they give a point breakdown in there, I believe.

Or you could just ask here where you want to stay and at what time.

DVC members can also go to the DVC site and, after logging in, learn the point value of other WDW hotels, depending on the hotel and the season. They can also get a point-per-night breakdown of hotels in the Concierge Collection. The other traditional time-shares tend to be 140-180 points for a full week's stay.

As far as using DVC points to stay at WDW resort that isn't a DVC resort, the point values make it unattractive to say the least. Depending on the season, 150 points (for many people the minimum you can buy to be a DVC member) will get you a week in a MODERATE resort. Deluxes go up significantly from there. If you're renting DVC points, or renting points from someone else who can trade them in for DVC points, best to use them in a DVC resort.

Thanks. That gives me a general idea, anyway. It's a shame there isn't someplace for a non-member to get this data. It's like Disney's all "over 500 vacation gateways worldwide!" and such, but then they won't tell you the point cost.

If you want to stay at a non-DVC resort, then there's really no upside to renting DVC points. You almost certainly won't save any money, and may actually end up paying more than you would for a cash reservation.

Most members who rent have a no changes, no cancellations policy, so you'd be out the cost of your trip if something happened and you couldn't go. There are much more stringent cancellation penalties for the member if they book a non-DVC.

It's a much more complex way to book a trip than is necessary.
