I believe the first phase is managers and OPS coordinators... followed by everyone else

Now with all of the changeover, do you think Nextel could be a sponser for an attraction?

I really don't care about the NEXTELS. I have one, and it's good. Yes, the walkie talkie beeps and instant voices can be annoying, but you already have cell phones all over the park. I don't think this will increase cell usage among guests, just with cast members.
From what's happened locally, NEXTEL comes in, and doesn't lease space on their towers to their competition, so if you have another cell provider, you may be walking around looking for a weak signal!

I am unsure, but I think some of you may be under the impression that cell phones do not work at the disney parks currently -- and that somehow, by putting up Nextel towers, people will all of a sudden start using thier phones there.

Cell phones (at least AT&T phones with digital service) work just fine in the parks.

My old Bell South nationwide worked fine in the past as well.

I do not think this will be the great trgedy some may think.

Yes, I use my cell phone when at Disney World -- when I must (normally when I am there I don't want to think about work, I use my phone when I am meeting friends and family etc.) No I do not use it while in an attraction or show (I turn it off) as I am sure most considerate people do.

For people that hate to "see" people talking on a cell phone, I pose this question: Why? Why does it bother you to see someone talking on a cellular phone or PCD? To me that is like saying "I hate seeing people talk to each other".

I've can't recall having problems using my Sprint phone at Epcot, but reception is weak in parts of Downtown Disney sometimes, I'm not really sure about Magic Kingdom or MGM.

For me, it's not the fact that people are on cells phones...it's the fact that ALOT of these people on cells phones are rude and show absolutely NO respect for the people around them.

People on cell phones tend to talk louder than they normally would in person. While you may think you are talking normally, it comes off as almost shouting to the person or persons standing nearby and most people don't want to hear about you or your personel lives.

EXAMPLE: My wife and I were watching the fireworks at The Magic Kingdom. We were cuddling and smiling and enjoying the magic in general when all of a sudden the guy next to me yells into his cell phone. "Just tell him to put the money under the orange cone at the end of my driveway...I'll be home to pick it up in about an hour!!!"

Then the man went on and on and to make a long story short it really ruined the Disney "Magic" for my wife and I.

While I agree that people who have cell phones have the right to use them, I don't think they have the right to abuse them and in turn ruin other peoples magical moments at the world.

If you insist on using your cell phone...please be courteous and go off to a secluded area and make your call....and for goodness sake PLEASE PLEASE don't use it on a ride or during a show.

My wife and I both have cells phones but NEVER bring them to Disney World Parks.

1) We don't want to be bothered.
2) Nothing is so important that it can't wait until we get back to our rooms.
3) If there IS a family emergency there's not much you can do in the middle of a Theme park anyway so just leave a message on the Resort room phone and we will get it when we get there.

It's amazing how we survived for so many years without cell phones isn't it?:animwink:

I don't have a problem with people talking on their cellphones. I understand that people need to stay in touch with their families and friends and in some cases work. I have a problem when people talk on their cell phones while their on rides and attractions. When I am riding It's A Small World, for example, I don't want to hear about how the guy in front of me is putting in a new driveway (actually happened!) I'm not saying cell phones should be banned, I'm just saying people should use some common courtesy when talking on them in the parks.

WDW has had cell phone towers on property for several years now, nothing new. They are in areas where guests never go and Disney is very good at hiding things.I have never had a problem with Verison on Disney and we stay all over.Leave the cell phones in the hotel room (as you can tell I hate cell phones) but I know some people cannot live without them:veryconfu

Nextel has spottedly good coverage here... there are tons of spots (not in the parks) where you couldn't buy a signal on your Nextel for a million bucks.

Did AT&T definitely pull out of SE???????

NO, not completely...

But renewal of sponsorship is virtually "see as we go" right now.
Temporary extensions untill further notice.

Like I said before, I live around cell phones constantly...I don't remember EVER going through a day in New York without people on their cell phone, yelling into it, being rude, ignoring others...
It's not that I hate seeing people talk to eachother.....in fact, that's not what I've said at all....I just go to WDW to relax...and constant cell phones would get very annoying to me...

Teen agers going around the park=parents worried=cell phones to contact parents=parents not worried

Frankly, for getting in touch with parents at the hotel, it's a life-saver.

"Hey Mom, I'm going to go to MK, from Epcot. I'm going to be home at 11pm since I want to watch the fireworks."

The towers are there just to increase the coverage of Nextell phones. While the coverage might be OK in most areas, but in CM areas, such as the Utilidoors, and other areas. I'm guessing they will be placed in other areas.

I'm probably one of the worst offenders with my cell phone--it's my only communication I have for work. But I think the only right thing to do is to ban them from being used on rides and shows. You're paying enough to enjoy your vacation, as well as everyone else around you.

Funny side story about cell phones in shows: I act/direct/produce stage shows at a local theatre. We post signs and have an announcement before each performance because peoples phones would ring during the show.

I was performing in a show in September and after the announcement was made, the show started with a cast member planted in the audience with their cell phone ringing. She was supposed to stand up, answer the phone, then come down the isle and become part of the show.

Well after the audience heard the recording of the warning then hearing the phone go off, we heard many audible exclamations (some very rude) to the cast member because they didn't realize this was part of the show! Some people were even trying to keep her from getting out into the isle! They, of corse, felt very stupid once they realized that it was planned.

Just goes to show that people are getting used to these items being turned off while in a public show or place like this. It IS rude, but at the same time, don't make a specticle of yourself yelling at the person to turn it off. After all, it could be part of the show :p ..... but I doubt it. :D

And especially is this is for Nextels, which have the walkie talkie thing, where you're going to hear voices yelling out of a phone at any time.

I have a Nextel (issued by my employer, not my choice). That speaker can be turned off, which I do all the time.

Especially since the time I was in the chair at the dentist and voices started coming from my pocket....
