Those do look overdone, burnt, and terrible. I've gotten them before at Homecoming and I love them. Your picture though makes them look bad. Here is a picture of some I've had and enjoyed.
The hush puppies we got at Trail's End at Ft. Wilderness were 1000% better than these. Our entire meal at Homecomin' was very up-and-down. We had one really good appetizer (fried green tomatoes) and one terrible one (the hush puppies). We had two great entrees (bbq pork on mac&cheese and the shrimp and grits) and two very average to below average entrees (chicken fried steak and the fried chicken). For $150, it was simply not worth the money. Definitely won't go into our regular rotation of restaurants to visit.
Fried Italian Rice Ball with Mozzarella and coated in Bread Crumbs
These were awesome. It's a side dish, but we ordered it as an appetizer and it worked out perfectly because we were a party of 4 and there were 4 of them.
Whenever we would walk by the American Adventure pavilion in Epcot I would always crave a funnel cake. For whatever reason (price?) I never bought one. This month, I did a solo Disney trip and my wife back home texted and said that I had better get a funnel cake, and no whining about it if I didn't. I didn't want to disappoint her (or me). Partial hand added for scale, I don't want to know how many calories were in all of that.
Chocolate cake for dessert from Trattorio al Forno. This was pretty average. It was the only thing we got at Trattoria that wasn't absolutely excellent.
