For those of us Disney fans living in the Philly area, channel 3 (KYW) is airing a report on it's 11pm newscast on 2/9 why your at risk eating at WDW. I don't normaly watch/read or pay attention to Disney bashing nonsense but for some reason this has my curiosity peaked. I almost can't wait to see/hear what kind of garbage they're going to spew. For those not living in the area, if the stations web-site put's up a link to see the report, I will link it here.

Further north, in the New York City viewing area, the report will also be shown Monday night at 11 on WCBS-TV/CBS2. I'm pretty sure both reports will have the same basic details that have been "uncovered" by the CBS stations in Disney heath report records.

Knowing KYW and its 'stellar' (sarcasm) reputation for sensationalism in its ongoing battle against WCAU-10, its probably nothing but a bunch of hype with little or no fact. Or its one person's bad experience and hey, its a shot at Disney and we'll get raitings.

I am constatntly appaled at the quality of all Philadelphia News TV stations and thier investigative reports. Try sitting through NBC-10's broadcast and actually see if there's an objective story with both sides of the story presented in a fair light with the proper context and i'd be suprised.

Coudln't have said it better PhotoDave219, every night there is some asinine "investigative" report. I just turn the channel when they come on.

*/drift....

I recently did time in 'central' PA, working for a newspaper and i swear, PA is by far the WORST state for newsgathering that ive delt with. While DC has restrictions out the rear (Uh No officer, i really dont want a face full of pepper spray ) but at least they have their act together....

Being from Runnemede, NJ I know all about fair press. In case the town doesn't ring a bell, we are the town that had its police chief arrested for prostitution about 2 weeks ago. Though in his case, he was uhhhhh....caught with his pants down. :animwink:

Being a long time fireman with plenty of TV exposure, I am never ceased to be amazed by the lack of clear and concise details reported in stories, especially in a fatality. The rush to beat the other channel to the breaking news basically means they NEVER check their sources.

Time and time again, I see imposters get on the news as a joke but the media reports them as such-and-such expert from PennDOT or some other organization. Truly amazing what one can do with a few names from someone's web site.

Good, I missed it last night so I'll have to check it out tonight because I'm curioous too.

Ahh, the beauty of living at the Jersey Shore so all your channels are doubled (even though they say the same thing), one for Phila and one for NYC.

Yeah I am watching CBS right now and just saw it on. I plan on recording it and maybe getting around to posting it on my server...

But I am studying television production and my teacher is a former employee of both KYW and WCAU and we both agree that Philadelphia local news sucks! It is better then most areas but they are all soo.... Philly. I mean WPVI (the ABC affilate) has not updated thier look in God knows how long... and KYW is just using the standard CBS "theme" that the major markets are using (youll notice CBS 2 in NYC and CBS 3 in PHL are almost identical). THat shows they have no one creative. WCAU (NBC) is not the greatest either. I think they are in great need of change. WTFX (FOX) is also not that great, it comes on too early and is too long, they just repeat points over and over and are kinda a two-bit station. WPHL (WB) does not do enough and their studio isnt really great, there for their broadcast looks, well thrown together. Well my two cents on philly news...

Well Ill be tuning in soon... i wonder how CBS will try to distort Disney...

It was pretty dumb with only 8 people filing reports. Sounds urgent, lol.

And these "newcasters" whose job is to report the correct news through real research still call it "EPCOT Center."

After watching that report, I will never eat at a Disney restraunt again!

8 people out tens millions reported getting sick from the food? GIVE ME A BREAK!

If I was CBS2 I would be ashamed of my story. IT was poorly thrown together and it was poorly investigated. 8 out of millions is a great records like Disney said. Think about it, the Striped Bass, one of the best known Philly restaurants had tons of ppl sick in previous years and even more violations and they only serve hundreds. I think CBS2 and CBS3 did that as a stunt to get more viewers and it was cheap. CBS truly has hit new lows.

Eh... what a waste of my video tape.

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
FEB Ratings sweeps started last Thursday... hence all these "special" and "investigative" reports.

Slap anything you can together and hype the heck out of it with promos running 24/7... and pray for a higher rating that night.

Some of the investigate reports are decent here in Chicago, and win many awards... but some are pure garbage as well..

I watched tonight from curiosity... but I won't even Tivo's tomorrow nights "more serious" report.

8 people reported getting sick last year. That's a joke! Even the Disney spokesperson looked at the reporter like she had two heads.

And from the look of the interview, Disney treated them really nice too.

Wouldn't it have been cool if instead of try to make Disney look BAD, they turned it around and promoted how much better the restaurants at WDW are?

Oh and all the critical violations were for food at unsafe temps.
That means someone left the food on the counter for more than a minute. No bugs, no unclean hands, no unclean cooking surfaces.

 Its sad that CBS thought that was good reporting.

Would have liked to seen some context (I know it's TV, and local at that)...8 complaints out of X million meals is good/bad/the same as the rate you would expect eating out anywhere...

There was a line about how WDW is every kid's dream and many people eat wonderful meals, or something like that.

The best they could do for scary video was to show a 'hidden camera' type shot of a buffet...

Considering the number of people passing through, that's amazing! If the reporters were really investigating, they should have reported how safe the food is. I'd be willing to bet the percentage of people getting sick from home cooking is hundreds of times that rate.

I've never payed much attention to local news, but I'll keep this in mind when I'm deciding which channel to watch at 6:00. Their Journalistic integrity is clearly weak to put something like that on the air.

Perhaps they also should have dug up some reports on cases at other theme parks.

I enjoy almost ANY park but I would bet the eateries at Disney are better kept than many of the Cedar Fair or Six Flags parks. Disney is a year round operation and has better facilities.

This simply reeked of sensationalism and I think the general public will easily come to this same conclusion. I know I just lost respect (what ever little respect I had) for CBS 3 news and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
