WDW cutting down on AC?

It was bad when we were there last week too, especially at most of HS. Worst though was the gift shop at American Adventure in Epcot - REALLY brutal. Asked a CM about it and was told there were guest complaints about being dripped on, so it was turned down to a level that didn't cause as much condensation on the vents. She also suggested complaining to guest services about it being too hot as that's the only way to get it reversed...

Edit: Spaceship Earth was also pretty warm until you got up the incline to the cavemen area, but not shocking
sounds lamer than the Prime Rib excuse

We just got back from a week-long trip and one thing I noticed in many places was the distinct lack of blasting AC. Not that AC wasn't present, but not in the fashion I was accustomed to it being at WDW. Many places I often found fridged were a little stuffy. This goes for many of the buildings/attractions in general, including shops. Has anyone else noticed this? It's quite possible my expectations were off based on how hot it was this past week. Just wondering if I'm crazy or if this is a thing.
It happens here every year when the summer temps hit.

Back in the days when we had A/C in Disney, and cheap kids meals:

Just uncovered this from a closet.

Any A/C is better than none at all.;) But, I did notice that I was still sweating a bit in some of the shops ( but there are just so many people in the shops, especially World of Disney).;)

I'm not saying they don't have it. I am saying it's way warmer then it should be at what they charge for admission.
It's such a fluid thing. Unless you have consistent evidence that it's always hot in a specific place all the time, it might just be a one off situation.

Disney wants their guests comfortable if for no other reason than it makes them spend more money. That's why it's so nice and cool in gift shops anyway. Overall, it's hard to say Disney A/C is anything but stellar. I've been 75 times and can't really remember complaining. I also live in one of the hottest places on earth, so I know a good A/C. My house has a top of the line Trane, 21 seer.

Well I'm in the parks all the time and I know for a fact that some areas are just not cool anymore. That includes the gift shops.

I would think it would be to their advantage to just have it be a temperature that isn't massively uncomfortable, but, not all that pleasant either. Otherwise, people spend time just standing in the AC and not really buying anything while blocking the isles that other people that are buying might be needing.

I much prefer it this way. It was always pretty jarring going from 90 degrees outside to 68 degrees inside, especially after a summer downpour when you were all wet. My bigger complaint is the motion sensors in the rooms themselves. I like it cool when I sleep and we found it hard to keep our room below 72ish on our last trip.

There is a hack for that on the thermostat...I know we used it on the last trip we took. I cannot remember it but a quick web search should bear it out. Mousekeeping disables it (or maybe it just times-out) everytime though so just know you have to reset it when you come back from the parks.

Wow. The cutbacks really are everywhere, aren't they? Well, if they want me to spend any extra money in the stores, they need to keep the AC cool. The first thing I give up when I'm in the parks if it's warm is shopping.

Funny how this is being brought up. DH and I have discussed this many times as we've noticed the same. And we only go about once a year and we've been noticing it for a while. Back in the day, we used to bring sweatshirts into rides and restaurants to prepare for the Arctic cold but we really don't feel as though we encounter that anymore in too many places. Gotta save a buck somewhere I guess...
Also isn't it pretty unhealthy to go from 99 degrees hot and humid to blasting cold 65 over and over?

There was a huge effort to go through very single AC system and cut it to the lowest acceptable level. This was a couple of years ago, but I have not heard of any further changes. But it is very possible.

The days of those super cooled interiors in the parks are sadly gone.
I thought so. Thanks for verification. I had heard this but wasn't sure but I have definitely noticed a differance.

I don't know about unhealthy but it definitely feels good in the hot Orlando summers. But like you I have been known to take a sweatshirt to restaraunts at WDW but not needed anymore.

Think for yourselfer
@CircusPeanuts is right in what they are saying. There was a property wide adjustment a number of years ago that made things a little warmer, but the majority of the issues have to do with old and broken HVAC equipment not being maintained correctly and buildings not being utilized the way they were designed.

This is from another thread that broached this subject.

So that's your answer.

I remember in the 70's walking into Pirates of the Caribbean or If you had wings and it felt so wonderful when it was hot.
Then there was some oil embargo or something going on, and it was never the same after that. When I am on vacation, I want to be cool in buildings when it is hot outside. I also don't want to be asked to reuse my bath towels. I am on vacation and want to be pampered and not made to feel like I am back in reality.

I think it's the Florida summer weather increasing on heat and AC trying to keep up.

Totally agree.
I've heard the complaints through the years, but have always been impressed with WDW's use of AC.
I also live in a scorching location (Palm Springs hit 123° less than 2 weeks ago), so living with AC is a way of life.
