WDW Counter-Service Madness: Final Four

After weeks of fierce competition our competitors have fallen one by one over the course of four rounds. With each battle, our original field of 64 has slowly been reduced, eliminating 60 competitors along the way resulting in the Final Four. These match-ups may be the most difficult we have seen yet and I look forward to seeing how they play out. Each of these four worthy competitors have fought their way through their regions, emerging as region champs. Winning the Magic Kingdom Region was Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, the Epcot Region was Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe, the Hollywood Studios Region was Electric Umbrella, and the Animal Kingdom Region was Sunshine Seasons Food Fair. While I am not going to reveal who has which seed, I will reveal the seeding match-ups. In no particular order, the matches by seed are:

#1 vs. #6

It will be very interesting to see how these matches play out and who will advance to the WDW Counter-Service Madness Championship.

For this round, the first counter-service eatery to receive (30) votes or the place with the most votes after 60 hours has passed from the time of the start of each set will be the winner. You are voting for which place in each set of matches you like better taking into consideration overall quality, atmosphere, experience, etc. So, you are voting for two places (one in each set) and please feel free to comment or discuss why you voted that way as these threads are in the discussion forum. You may place your votes in the poll and/or write them out though I would prefer everyone vote by means of the poll. You are voting for one counter-service place in each match (2 total). Obviously, if you have not been to all the places, then only vote for the places you have experienced if you like. The four poll options are not all going against one another rather they are matched up as written below so you are not picking your favorite out of the four, but rather your favorite from each match.

The Final Four matches are:

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe (Magic Kingdom) vs. Electric Umbrella (Epcot)
(Pecos Bill won the Magic Kingdom Region by defeating Oasis Canteen, Backlot Express, Earl of Sandwich, and Flame Tree Barbecue. Electric Umbrella won the Hollywood Studios Region by defeating Seashore Sweets, Pizzafari, Pinocchio Village Haus, and Beaches and Cream).

Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe (Magic Kingdom) vs. Sunshine Seasons Food Fair (Epcot)
(Cosmic Rays won the Epcot Region by defeating Turtle Shack Snack Bar, Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe, Main Street Bakery, and Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. Sunshine Seasons won the Animal Kingdom Region by defeating Contempo Cafe, Wolfgang Puck Express, Captain Cook's, and Plaza Ice Cream Parlor).

This match will end 11:00am EST on Sunday 12/19/2010.

I just don't understand the love for Cosmic Ray's. The food is bad.

I'm shocked none of the ice cream shops or bakeries made it. Those are some of the most original, delicious eateries in all of WDW. Instead, we've got a few burger places, where the burgers all taste the same.:shrug:

Seems like nostalgia, location and theming have won over taste.

I find it amazing that Wolfgang Puck's is not in the Final Four. It may be the only counter-service restaurant I'd go out of my way to experience. And nothing from Epcot, either?

We have a MK sweep and these two MK favorites will duke it out for the Championship.

I agree with you that those places are unique in that they are a change from the typical eatery. I do not know if you are aware of this, but most of the ice cream served at WDW is just Edy's ice cream and can be found in any local supermarket which may be a reason these places do not stand out like we think they would. Some of these places actually made it farther in the tournament than I expected. I do understand though where you are coming from with regards to the bakeries and places where they make their food fresh every day.

Wolfgang Puck was a personal favorite of mine until they redid the menu and got rid of all of my favorites. Wolfgang Puck was a #3 seed in this tournament and I was surprised by its early exit. I think the reason the places in the Final Four are there is because they are all in the parks and seen by everyone. The places outside of the parks, some of which may be better than those in the parks, is only seen by a percentage of people so there may be less knowledge of how good those places are.

Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe defeats Sunshine Season Food Fair 37-34.
