We arrive on Wednesday, so we're hoping everything is done and cleaned up by then. Selfish, yes, I know. ;) Honestly, though, Disney does an amazing job of getting ready for a hurricane and cleaning up quickly afterwards.

Sept 11 too i believe

Yep, but technically the parks were opened until like 11:00 on 9/11, when they finally had an idea of what was happening. I was in MGM that day, and they ushered us out and gave us a one day pass in reimbursement. Talk about a traffic jam, not to mentioned raw fear and confusion. The next day they passed out American flag pins to everyone as they came in.

We are arriving on Wed. also. Staying at Pop Century. I have been tracking this storm since last week before it hit Mexico. I am confindent now it will not have an impact on our trip. By the time we fly out of Providence RI on Wed. afternoon it will be off the Canadian coast way out to sea.

This is a big trip for me in a bunch of ways. I can't wait. I feel like a little kid.

The ticker on the news channels all morning have been stating that Sea World was to open at 9am this morning...while WDW and UO were closed for obvious reasons.

Just for the record - 1 pm here and the wind is still really howling.

Very strange to be experiencing the edge of a hurricane and it's getting colder and colder as the day passes.

What's happening in the way of Monorails?

(And Does Anybody Have A Photo of 4 Monorails at the Contemporary During a Storm?

They go to the barn next to the Magic Kingdom while the rest are stored inside the Contemporary with it's storm doors shut.

Quite an interesting move on their part. They were the first to reopen after the hurricanes last year, too. From what I gather from people who are working today, it certainly would be a good day to go... they had only 200 in the gate by 1pm (after opening at 9!). Of course, it's probably still too windy to run the big rides...

What do you say to guests who say its not fair that its only open to resort guests, they paid the same ticket price. Actually the off-site guests pay a higher rate. On-site gets ticket discounts.

I went to Epcot and MK last year the day after Charley....the parks were in decent enough shape considering the circumstances, and they were pretty empty. Fastpass was shut off....most likely due to a lack of staff, but there was no need for it....everything was a walk-on

I also went to IOA the same day....that park was much worse for wear

This brings me back to last year's hurricanes. I'm sitting here safe in Illinois but I remember all too well what it was like down there. I really enjoyed seeing Wishes during the day when we closed early for Frances. That was one of the weirdest days of my life. To see the park totally empty during the day without even tables, chairs, or signs outside. It was like seeing someone with their toupee off for the first time.

I went to Studios the day after Charley myself last year. The park had been completely cleaned and didn't look much the worse for the wear. There was a whole lot of tree damage throughout the property but the park itself looked just fine.

It was actually a little busier than I expected it to be but that was much earlier in the season so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. We got there around noon and overall the lines where like a slow weekend in the fall.

The one challenge we noticed was that because of a CM shortage (I learned that detail later) the only place open to eat was Backlot Express. The result was some pretty amazing lines and no place to sit and eat. We were able to find a place to stand that was thankfully under-cover because a nasty trailing rain band came through just as we were eating.

I think what stood out most from the day though was crossing over I-4 and seeing the never-ending line of cars headed back to Tampa. I headed in over Epcot Center drive and I-4 West was gridlocked as far as the eye could see.

I am sorry but I don’t understand your post. Did you see Wishes during the daytime? If so, what was the reason WDW did Wishes durning the daytime?

Thanks,

I was in Magic Kingdom Monday night and I must say it was one of the best times I have ever had. The park was empty compaired to the day before. In my mind it was the smallest crowd I have ever seen on a Monday night at the Magic Kingdom. Did Epcot yesterday and the crowds were back up, thanks mainly to Food and Wine.

Disney was very helpful during the entire ordeal. I was at Pop Century during the storm and since the parks were closed the WDW Tour channel was turned into a movie channel showing "Remember the Titans" and in the lobby characters were entertaining guests. Thankfully it wasnt bad enough to warrent a lock-down of the resort.

Parks did well and the ride out crew had an easy night of double pay.
