WDW - Changes to Spaceship Earth

I was at WDW the August that child was injured on SE. Although by all reports, the kid was fooling around and had been warned repeatedly to be seated, it WAS an injury, and insurance companies have been in a very bad mood since 9/11. Dollars to doughnuts, the SE warnings are directly related to both. Too bad, because anyone with a brain would know enough to a)stay seated, and b) make sure the kids stay seated. Talk about the death of common sense!

Well every ride vehicle on Disney Property now has a stay seated and keep hands, arms, etc. in the vehicle. Disney should not have to be totally liable if some idiot decides to ignore the sign. Anyway no one should be getting out of their vehicle during a ride...COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!!!

Okay.. I just got back from epcot.

Let me tell you, it's ugly! They basicly stuck the tv's on the wall.. no longer is it a dark tunnel. Because of the brightness from the TV you can now see all the stuff on the walls. No more, "Glowing neon" effect. Not only that, but it's about the cheapest CGI rending you've ever seen on the screen. At the very least they could have just used a real photo. Not something that looks like a a Toy Story film gone horrably wrong.

The also removed the audio that you used to hear as you go up the hill. You can hear the old audio, at the end of the ride now. At least that part sorta fits in okay.

I think this is just a test setup, they way it's installed it looks as if it was just "stuck on the wall" I hope they remove it soon. We already have a warning at the top as the car turns, I really don't think this additional warning is needed... at least put it outside or right as you get into the cars.

Jay

BTW. The laser effect at the end of the ride, the green tunnel of beams is really lacking these days. You can hardly even see the tunnel effect now.

Best short safety film of 2002

Took my little trip up Spaceship Earth. In my most humble opinion, the monitors didn't spoil the show. You see them right after you start up the hill... instead of staring up at the starfields.

Would agree with the comment that the computer animation will not win any technical academy awards. But then it is over quickly, and Jeremy Irons brings you into the story.

I understand the need to cover themselves for the insurance companies but why can't people take some responsibility for their own actions. I accept any responsibility for injury caused by my own stupidity. All they need is a sign at the entrance to the ride saying that they will not accept liability for people doing stupid things. Take reasonable steps to protect people, but dont go overboard and risk diminishing the rides enjoyment.:brick:

this is America. You get sued for others' stupidity. I would rather see three tv monitors at the start of a ride than see disney lose millions that could go into new rides due to someone being dumb...

But they already have two or more warnings so why do they need to add more? and why something like that, which really hurts the ride.

Hmm I dont think it hurts the ride (persay) mind you I havent seen the monitors myself in person. Disney has to watch themselves unfortunatly we live in a society of liars, and cheaters, and idiots. People will do anything to take someone to court.

I agree but as long as people will need heed the warnings, they'll keep putting more on!

*shrug* probably won't bother us, but what really bothers me is how stupid people can be... even as a little kid at disney (when I was six, my first time there) I had enough common sense not to feel the urge to just freakin' jump out of a ride.. how stupid can people be? Oh well, sorry had to rant.

Most people do have the common sense. I just don't understand people. Animals are much easier to deal with.

you know what... their will always be a few who dont fallow the rules and make it bad for the rest, but honestly disney wouldnt spend money adding safety things to rides unless it really needed it. As long as the safety things dont hinder ride capacity and speed i dont really care ..... too much, just a little.

now putting safety doors at splash mountain loading cue thats rediculous

did you look at the gates for Splash? They don't detract from the ride at all--they are themed to look like logs, so I don't really mind them. Again...if it prevents the ridiculous lawsuits that tap into the new ride money, I'm all for it. We can't stop the morons from being morons...but we can keep them from getting rich for being stupid. It's kinda insulting that we can spend so much money on a college education and never see as much money as these jerks see for endangering the welfare of a child...the PARENTS should have been arrested for that...

:veryconfu

It is still my favorite ride! :) :) :) :) :sohappy: :sohappy:
