WDW Alone

Zummi Gummi

Pioneering the Universe Within!
What is it like traveling alone at WDW? I'll be doing so in November, and just wondering if anyone who has already done it has any tips or anything.

I needed to make anothe trip to Disney, because it's been too long, and no one else wanted to go, so I decided to go alone!

Would love to hear anything from people who've done it before!

I have only done parts of Disney alone. When my wife and I go and leave the kids at home, when she needs a nap, I usually do Disney transportation tours. Most of the time, I catch a launch from WL and ride and read. I am not sure if I will ever have an opportunity to do an entire trip alone....my wife and kids might dis-own me.

I took a seven day trip on my own in January of 2000. I had a blast! As a single guy in his 20s, I hit the parks every day and PI every night. On most nights :lookaroun I stumbled back to my room at the Celebration Hotel. I woke up, slept, and ate when I wanted to. I rode every ride at least twice, and never had to think of another person. The obvious down side is that you have no one with you to immediately share a positive experience and I did feel like a huge looser every time a CM would ask me “how many?” while getting onto a ride. That was the only time I tried the parks on my own but I still look back on that trip with an extreme fondness. I hope you have an awesome trip! Take care.

Yeah, I've considered going on my own, but decided that would be the major deterrent for me... not so much on rides like Tower of Terror and Rock 'N RollerCoaster, but on stuff like PotC, HM, Space Ranger Spin, Peter Pan, Philharmagic, MV3D, etc., I'd feel a little silly, because I still love to do each of those things.

Maybe instead of worrying about whether I'd look dumb I should figure out why I'm 21 years old and still want to watch Muppet Vision 3-D for the millionth time.

I hop over to the parks all the time alone since I live in Kissimmee. Love zipping over for lunch and a few rides. It is still very fun, and when you do the single riders lines you will see that a ton of people do the parks alone. I even met the self proclaimed YETI-MAN for the first time yesterday at AK in the EE single riders line. There is tons of fun conversation in the lines if you are outgoing. Think of it, you can indulge yourself on a favorite ride taking it multiple times without a partner thinking you're nuts or worse, getting bored to tears! And remember, when you are at WDW, you are NEVER alone.

I've had times byself while others were riding the wild stuff I can't/don't. So I did the "boring" stuff (Animation tour), while they ride RR and ToT. So if you're by yourself, eat and ride what YOU want. And look at the positive side: you should have shorter waits as a single rider.

I just went by myself 9/26-10/7 and it was WONDERFUL! Single-rider lines are the best! Also, it allows you to be selfish, you don't have to ask anyone else what they want to do, where they want to eat, etc etc. I had a BLAST by myself!

Sounds like a dream come true to me...as long as you had some books to read on the buses and at meals, I think it would be great!

Have fun, and don't forget to share your insights when you come back!

Exactly. It's really the best way to go. I highly recommend it to anyone. I did it in 1996 and 2000 and loved every minute of it. I'll be doing it again in a month to "make up" for the trip earlier this year with some friends. They have two kids ages 6 and 9 who were really more into the whole annoying pin trading fad and of course meeting all the characters. That's just not what a trip to a Disney Park is for me, and many of the attractions fell by the wayside. I look forward to doing EVERYTHING this time and, as Fallen Angel put it, I won't have to "ask anyone else what they want to do, where they want to eat, etc." I can also be the uber-geek I am and take tons of video and digital pictures. With others around there's always a guilty twinge that I'm holding them up.

I took a solo trip in Jan. for the EE preview and loved every minute of it. I was worried that it might get lonely but it seemed like I met and talked to a lot more people when I was alone than when I go with my family. I'll also reiterate what everyone else is saying about not having to ask anyone else what they want to do.

P.S. I leave tomorrow for my two week trip staying at FW Cabins!!

I am SO jealous of you guys! I would LOVE to go alone! My favorite times at WDW are when hubby and daughter (thrill ride junkies) are off on their favorite rides and I have a couple of hours to myself. I usually just meander through the parks taking pictures of EVERYTHING!!!! That usually drives dd and dh nuts. They hate stopping for pictures and that is my favorite thing to do. One day, I hope to get the chance to go by myself.

I have traveled alone to WDW many times - you will have a great time! Follow your own agenda, relax, and people-watch - it's great!

There have been lots of previous threads on this subject - you might want to do a search for further tips and advice. ;)

I took my first solo trip just last month. I was very nervous about being by myself. First off having to travel by myself had me the most nervous. Once I got to the hotel I knew I would be okay. Riding the rides by myself wasn't bad at all. I didn't go to any restaurants. I stayed at the Contemporary so I would go to the Food and Fun Center and take my food back upstairs to my room. I also used room service. Now that I know I can do a trip by myself, I will most definitely do it again if I had the opportunity.

RIGHT ON! I get more eye-rolls from people I am with about the picture taking. JEESH! My husband will keep walking ahead while I am talking pics and then realize that he is way up there. HAHA I would holler at him but it does give me a few spare moments ALONE. Hey...maybe I should go alone, too!

I've been alone several times and it's great! I also like to take photos, so it's great for that. Teh only real problem is meals, but I normally grab something served in a basket (chicken, fish and chips) and see a parade or outdoor show. Definately recommend it! Be sure to take advantage of Single rider lines at both Test Track and Everest.

One of my favorite things to do in the parks is go alone... my family goes together, but I just leave and enjoy myself. I love to eat alone and watch people outside--- its so much fun for me... but i could just be wierd.

I did a solo trip for the opening of M:S. It was AMAZING!!!! It was all about me!!! What did I want to do, where did I want to go, what did I want to eat!!! I met new friends everywhere I went, I dont mind eating alone and most of the CM's went out of their way to make me feel comfy as I was alone!!!! I made sure to eat at several sit down restaurants I had wanted to do that I sometimes have a tough time getting the friends to agree to. There is nothing quite like it. I felt it was a great experience and wouldnt hesitate to do it again if the opportunity presented itself. Belle

Even though when we last went to Disney, there were 3 of us, the closest I came to doing at least something by myself was when after a day in the parks no one wanted to go to DTD. I mean, all I need are a couple of hours to rejuvinate then I'm ready to go! :sohappy: But the fact that they didnt want to go was fine with me. I went there had the best chocolate covered strawberries at Ghirardelli's :slurp: and even did some shopping for the ones who didnt want to go  . At home I was always the type that even if I wanted to go to a new restaurant and no one else did, I just went by myself with reading materials in hand. Just cant wait for people or else you will never go anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. Hope you have a great time! :)

I am taking a day off on Friday, Nov 10th and driving over from Tampa on Thursday afternoon. Has anyone ever been to Old Town on a Thursday night? My hotel is across the street, so after the parks close at 9, I was thinking of hitting the Sun on the Beach or the Blue Max for awhile.

I've got an Annual, but it's so expensive at PI, I'm not sure I want to spend the money it takes (maybe Adventurer's Club for awhile, 'cause it's such a kick, but even domestic adult beverages add up fast on property). Any other suggestions around the property/LBV/Kissimmee? Thanks!
