Honestly Potter World down the street is doing very well. Attendance is up, Merchandise sales are up and I would imagine food revenue as well. Why, because they acquired the rights to a product that has captured the hearts and minds of people the world over.

I am usually pretty understand of how to run a business and why many decisions are made the way they are because I ahve been in those positions over the years. However, outside of Pixar, the creativity at Disney is at an all time low and without that creativity profit will certainly suffer as Disney is a creative company. Managers get caught up in worrying about what the shareholders want and the bean counters get to rule the roost. They forget that if the company is providing blockbuster entertainment across all of its business lines, then shareholder issues will likely resolve themselves.

Disney management needs to back off for a bit, not unlike what has happened at Calfornia Adventure, and let their people tell a story in a meaningful way. This goes for movies, themeparks and other vehicles as well.
We needs some WOW, followed by a whole lot of Ooohs and Aaahs. Failure to deliver in this manner will certianly result in further declines in revenue and attendance.

Great...cutbacks.....just what Walt would have done. :lookaroun

When Walt was short on cash or times were tough he would not cut his product, he would forge ahead with bold new vision and determination. I really could not see Walt cutting back on his dream. Cutting back on your quality and the things that make you special only withdraws from the equity that is your brand name and thusly mkes you weaker in the future. Forging ahead with boldness, creativit and keeping the momentum is what makes you great...just like Walt Disney or Patton. Sitting back and catering to the boardroom and executives wishes is what makes you sink like the Titanic. This is where Capitalism fails (profit for profit's sake right now) and why Walt always maintained control over his company and used private funds if necessary and is why Disney is wher it is today.

You did hear that Walt died? Right?

Sorry to be so sarcastic. You are right. Unfortunately, that's not the way the world works, as you point. At least not now, at least not here. One wonders when they will discover the need to invest now to reap later. There is little indication they can look beyond the next quarterly earnings report. The stock price rises and falls not even on what you make, but what the 'analysts' THOUGHT you would make. If you exceed expectations, stock price goes up. If you fail to make expectations, price goes down. Even if you made money. The suits are running the place and I'm not sure creative guys will ever regain control.

They could at least deck out MK for the 40th and do a brand new afternoon parade, at least!! But even that now is not sounding promising. Beyond a little merch, it doesnt look like much will be celebrated. So far.

It`s easier to say what won`t be ready due to budgets being pulled.

And that would be???....

Am I reading into things, or are you referring to a pushback of some of the Fantasyland Expansion elements?

Or was there other stuff for the 40th that was taken off the table, and were things we didn't even know about yet, but shouldn't worry about now since they've been cut?

I assume Disney will do something for the 40th. I assume it would officially start October 1, 2011. What will it be? Who knows? I know one thing, get rid of that horrible afternoon parade at MK. It is TERRIBLE!!!!!

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed - we've booked our holiday for then so we're there just in case :lookaroun.

Im sure you will have a fantastic visit even if there isnt a 40th celebration per say. Its a nice time of year to be here.

Its really a shame on Disneys part because they would be missing out on a great marketing opportunity. The 20th and 25th celebrations were so well done!! And we havent seen anything like that since. Lets hope they regain some pixie dust in their cheap no care thinking.

That is a bold lie about Walt. He cheaped out on several animated features during the war years. He put the illusion out that several of the films would be full blown features to follow Bambi, but they were far less than full animated films.

Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

Let's not forget The Reluctant Dragon either. A Disney PR nightmare.

Also the fact that he used abc money to build disneyland. Which if had busted would have owned disney instead of the other way around

Here is what is going to happen:
Ticket prices go up.
Room rates go up.
New DVC cart in the FLE.
Pin Trading will have it's own area on property. Where you also have to pay to park.
The Yeti will still be in whatever mode it is currently in.
TDO will still be TDO.
People will complain about Star Tours 2.
People will still complain about why Horizons has not returned.

While we're on the topic, I'll be heading out on January 8th, and I'm assuming none of these will be done by then? If not, what are they going to do to kick off the beginning of the celebration seeing that I'm so close to the start of the year? Will the new merchandise be in?
