Imagine a future in which you head for the park exit...

Cast Member: "Good evening, Mr. Johnson! How was your day at the park? Good, good. Say, are you sure you're ready to leave? You have $1,715.36 left in your checking account, plus a total of $3,258.42 credit available on your combined cards! Here's a printed list of the shops you haven't visited today. We'll be open for another two hours-- You wouldn't want to let that perfect item slip through your fingers just because you haven't discovered it yet. Don't let the magic pass you by!

New Disney Dish Podcast talks about this merger and Jim Hill brings up exactly the point I did; the void VR angle for consumer products outside of the parks. Adds too that they can roll VR out on cruise ships too which were always absent of attractions.

Nothing about this restructuring enables that sort of content except that in the silo of real creatives who make movies and television and hack creatives who make everything else. VR experiences aren’t a consumer product and there was no need that was preventing Disney from once again trying location-based entertainment. Disney keeps faultering with location-based entertainment because their costs don’t work and that problem has only become worse with time, it was not because they lacked the people who have done so well at maintaining the Disney Store brand.
