Waterpark Refurb Question

Hey guys,

I booked a trip in March because of the great buy 4, get 3 free deal but I realized after that that Typhoon Lagoon is closed until March22. Pretty much it opens the day after we leave. My bf is obsessed with the water parks and wants to be there every morning so i was thinking of switching the dates, arriving 2-3 days after instead to stay 2-3 days longer but when I called, the castmember suggested I wait until it's closer to the date because he said it's not for sure they will open on March 22. And he would hate to see me switch my reservation if it's not necessary.

So the main question is, does Disney usually stick to their refurb opening schedules? Should I change my reservation to arrive later?

Thank you and sorry for the long post!

They will try and stick to the refurb schedules as much as possible but the more extensive the refurb is the greater the chance it can run over. From what I have seen go across the permit desk the rufurb being done a TL is beyond extensive and could easily run over.

Disney does however have a second water park (Blizzard Beach) that will be open so you can go there if you can't push your dates out far enough.

I would also highly recommend checking out Aquatica if you don't mind the drive and shelling out the extra 40 bucks per person. Especially if you go on a chilly day, they have very pleasantly warm water on ALL of their attractions (lazy rivers, slides, etc.), much more so than Blizzard Beach.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I think I have decided to stick to our reservations and surprise my bf with a trip to Aquatica. It's going to be quite expensive but I think he'll love it. Maybe some coupons will pop up by March.

Thanks everyone

Does anybody know exactly what's going on over at TL that will make it such a major refurb? I thought it was just the wave pool. Is there more to it?

There is much more to TL than the wave pool, but to my understanding the wave pool is what needs the most work.

It's a major refurbishment of just about anything, but as far as I know, no new attractions will premiere--it'll just look nice and shiney in the Spring.

The permits filed indicated "Wave pool replacement" in the scope of work. While I highly doubt that the pool is being fully demolished and replaced there is going to be some major work done to it up to an including resurfacing and repair/replacement of the wave machine. There are also a variety of other things going on around TL as well such as roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, repainting, etc.

Typhoon Lagoon

What are the chances of the Typhoon Lagoon refurbishment finishing earlier than it's scheduled date? I am up to my eyeballs in snow and was looking forward to spending some time at TL in March. Unfortunately my travel dates are from March 16 thru March 21. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're finished before the 21st.

Anything is possible but I would not count on it as there is some pretty extensive work going on a TL.

I know when we were down there 2 years ago on our March Break, it opened on the exact day it said it was going to. Now I am pretty sure there was no extensive work being done that year, but it stilled opened on the day it was scheduled to which was nice for us because we were leaving 2 days later. Of course the day we had to go was the coldest day of the whole trip. :ROFLOL:

You could go to Blizzard Beach? That way you don't have to switch your ressie around. And there is a chance...an off chance...that they are done with the refurb before the scheduled date.
