Hello all! Some interesting dates have been released for the annual refurbishment of the water parks...

Blizzard Beach will close September 28th, 2008, and reopen October 26th.

Typhoon Lagoon has a much longer refurb this time around, it will close October 26th and is anticipated to reopen March 22nd, 2009!

More likely than not, this is due to the work that needs to be done on the wave pool. I hold a tiny hope that they might install a new attraction in this timeframe, but I have a feeling they're not.

Damn! When I checked previously both water parks were open all through October. That's gonna mess with our vacation plans now.

Just keep in mind that the information states anticipated reopening date of March 22nd. Seems like they have the thought that it could possibly take longer than that.

Now will BB be closed on the 28th or is the 28th going to be the last day? I hope its the first we had that day designated for BB.

Disney is just messing with all my planning, first the AC closing before we had planned to go, then Country Bears, now this...boo

That is quite a long time for the yearly power-wash and sprucing up that the water parks typically go through.

I wonder, like others are probably doing at this time, whether there will be any additions made during this 5 Month long, so called refurb.

It will be interesting to see if any announcements are made about it. This might fit into the laundry list of plussing that is rumored to be right around the corner.

Actually, as a TL CM, this rumor was floating around for a good 2 months now, but it is obviously now confirmed. The reason for the extension is indeed the giant fixing for the wave pool. No new attractions are in the works, at least, nothing we've been aware of.

If they were building anything new, they would most likely have already started clearing land and laying the foundations. October 26th isn't that long away...especially at Disney's glacial construction pace.

TL will be closed for a long time it seems. How long were the closures last year? I don't really follow the water parks as I don't ever go to them.

Yeah, this rehab is gunna be 6 months. The norm annual timeframe for a water park rehab is 3 months. Usually TL and BB alternate, one going down before the other (ie, last year TL would go down first , then BB went down).

They usually repaint, unclog pipes, clean the waterways, get rid of leaves, etc. I'm guessing for BB just being a month down it'll be out-of-necessity tasks instead of the norms.

Whats wrong with the wave machine at Typhoon?, just my curiosity peeking out.

As I understand it, there is nothing wrong with the wave machine itself, just that the wave pool is damaged somehow preventing them from releasing waves over a certain size.

I hope that TL, and more specifically, the wave pool, get some much needed TLC then. At the same time, I hope they are able to get it open by the scheduled opening date, as we are going to be down there for our March Break and are leaving on the 24th of March. TL is our favourite water park and I know last time we were down there, it opened the day before we were leaving too. Even though we still got to go, it was kinda chilly that day and we didn't really stay too long.
Maybe I will luck out and they will have a soft re-opening the week before.

Typhoon "cleanup"

I was at Typhoon Lagoon this weekend and noticed a lot of rust and corrosion
all over the stairways and I-beam structure of the CRUSH-N-GUSHER.
(no, this does not appear to be a part of the theming)
This attraction is only three or four years old, and it does not look good.
Rusty iron steps used by bare feet need to be a concern by management.

Has anyone else noticed this??
