Was the 1996-97 Pink Cake Castle partly inspired by Tim Burton's "Batman"?

OK, I just dropped my tie in the scanner...gaudy or fun, brighten up the office tie? And what the heck does my tie have to do with the pink castle cake anyway?

It was gawdy and I didn't like it. Then again, I'm more of a purist when it comes to design. Although, I must say I did like when the castle was decorated to celebrate DLR's 50th.
Must be me. I did not like the 50th anniversary gilded castle either.
I was not a fan of all that "goopy gold" and I hated that big medallion thing in the middle.

Again, I recognize that other folks liked either or both overlays.
As for me, I disliked the gilded castle, I HATED the frosted birthday cake.

I heard their wedding business crashed while the castle was pink and the few weddings they did have required alot of photoshop.. and after that they've sworn to never doing anything like that to the castle ever again.

This and international one timers were angry they couldn't see the castle.

Though to be fair...it did kick off a tradition of decorating the castle for other events.
My favorite being the gilded overlay for Disneyland's 50th.

Actually, the tradition started with Disneyland Paris, who got a castle cake of their own for their 1st anniversary in 1993 (though it's more of a strawberry shortcake than sugar-palooza, like WDW). They also got a Hunchback-inspired overlay with oversized jester hats for their 5th anniversary in 1997

And for what it's worth, I was a fan of WDW's castle cake when it happened. At the time, I thought it was my once-in-a-lifetime trip, and I thought it was even more special because only a few people would get to see it like that. I think it looks worse in photos than real life, and hasn't aged particularly gracefully, but as a 'moment in time' I think it was pretty successful
