Have you ever seen the CM's dump ice into the dispensers at the All-Stars? I could not believe what I saw last September at ASMo. A CM with help from another was loading ice into the top of the drink dispensers. He was standing on the shelf with one foot and the other on the chrome railing after transferring from a small ladder. The other CM handed him a big bucket (the bucket did not look that clean from the outside) and dumped most, but not all in the dispenser. A lot missed the mark and fell to the floor. I hope that ice was not for the drinks? I was afraid to ask. Personally, I don't use/ask for ice anywhere due to mold problems with most commercial ice makers. Does anyone know it that's SOP?

No offense but you seem to post nothing but negative stuff, every post I have seen of yours the same way. You find a problem and tell us about it. The check-ins, ice machine procedures, directional signs, etc. Do you think anything is done well at the resorts.

Don't the drink dispensers at the All-Stars have Ice Dispensers in he middle?
Did you ever think they could have been topping this up?

Or maybe the ice was being put aroumd the chamber where the drinks are held, to keep them cool? No need to jump to conclusions.

I've seen them dump buckets of ice into the ice dispenser at the WL. Do I mind? Not at all, I like ice with my drinks.

and I have to agree with the others, a few positive threads would help.

I was starting to notice that trend too. But just chalked it up to the fact that I don't read EVERY post and assumed there were plenty of positive ones elsewhere in threads I just haven't read. I dunno.

As long as they didn't use the ice that landed on the floor (which I was expecting you to say), then what's the problem? And who cares what the bucket looked like on the outside? It's the INSIDE of the bucket that contains the ice. I would assume this is SOP, especially if you have seen any fast-food restaurant fill their ice supply.

Im pretty sure that the Ice despensers make their own ice, think of how many ppl get ice all day. Those poor cast members would be shuffleing ice all day. I know at some places that if there is a problem with the machine and its not making its own ice that they just load the hopper by hand so the machine is still working and ppl dont complain. Mabee this is not the case but who knows.

Sorry if my recent threads seem negative, they are not intended to be as such. I guess it is my nature to observe and try to make things better when possible. I am what you call "obsessive-compulsive" at times. The good things take care of themselves.

I do love all things Disney and WDW in particular and have started some positive threads; and some may not be so positive since my hiatus. I just write about what I have encountered during my 13 visits. I'll try to be more positive in the future. When I was employed I always remember what my mentor (may he rest in peace) told me from day one, "He who pleases everyone, pleases no one."

They were probably just having problems with the ice-maker on the soda machines. I know at work, sometimes we had to go and fill the machine up because the ice was not being made.

I've seen it done at many restaurants, and it's really no big deal. I'm sure that even though it looked like a nasty bucket on the outside that the inside was sparkling clean. That's just the Disney way ;).

Don't feel you can't post negative or "non postive" things on the boards. Just think about the boards like people you deal with in your every day life. Would you only talk about the things you DON'T like in life with them all the time?

Just a matter of "tempering" the good with the bad observations. It's easy to get cynical these days with mass market media spoonfeeding everyone bad information and trying to convince humanity that it is horrible in every way possible. So we take anything that is "positive" for granted and only focus on the "negative". :D

I doubt Disney would allow any "questionable" behavior in its food service. With the way the media reacts to every Disney screw-up, I don't think Disney would do anything that could get guests sick. I can imagine the headlines. "DISNEY USES TOILET WATER IN SODA MACHINES, 3 GUESTS DEAD". Sure, Disney doesn't exactly give Value Resort guests the best food on property, but dysentery is a bit much, I should think. I don't remember seeing that as part of my combo...

I think Kevin has the right idea, at least in what people are reacting to. I held back when first reading this and really reacted to your list on another post listing all Disney media relationships. While you are correct in your list, the conclusion is a Michael Moore worthy stretch.

I would hold up members like Gen. Grizz, MKT, Corrus and the like as people who are very critical of issues and trends, but still manage to acknowledge the positive and the successes.

Balance and perspective are the keys.

It depends on the soda dispenser.

Some require that the syrup and the Co2 be chilled by ice tank before it gets dispensed. The ice stays in the bin and does not get dispensed. When the ice melts in goes into the drain and more ice is needed.

Some dispences the Co2 and soda with the ice allowing the ice to used in drinks. (automatic maker needed)

Some chill the Co2 and soda before and require ice. (usually at Fairs and will have the old soda tanks instead of the box, and is mobile)

Automatic Ice maker bins are generally placed on top of the machine for ice needed for the public. Some smaller resturants/gas stations wont have this as the machines because they are compact and can cost about $3,000.

Even if you have an automatic ice make you can still run the risk of producing mold on the inside part of the shoot because its open to the air/dust. You can even get mold in soda nozzles if you dont clean them.

In CA. you can get a lower food "grade level" just for that alone, so most places will have a daily/weekly/monthly cleaning routeen.
**daily (soak nozzles in just CO2 over night)
**weekly (adjust Co2/syurp 5 to 1 ratios) roatate ice in bin
**monthly (empty ice bin and sanatize)

Hope this educates all on soda 101....you all pass!!!
