NO! NO! NO! I'm afraid you all misunderstood my intentions when I started this thread!! I would NEVER consider buying a medal someone else earned!! Earning it is the only way I would ever want one of my own!! I simply wanted to know if they have medals for the 1/2 marathon finishers or if it's only for the full marathon runners. I had extensive back surgery 5 years ago and was told by my surgeon that I should never do any kind of running for exercise - only walking. Well, I have walked in several 5K's and, with the blessing of my new doctor, am starting to incorporate some light jogging into my routine. I don't know that my back could ever withstand a full marathon, but I do see that I would be able to jog/walk a 1/2 marathon at an avg. pace of under 15 min/mile, which I understand is the pace I would need to keep in order to qualify. The promise of a Mickey medal sure is a wonderful incentive!!

The half marathon is Donald's race- you would recieve a Donald medal for completing it. :) Donald is #1 anyway so its the better medal. :D

The only respectable way is to earn it. You have plenty of time to train. Just in case you don’t know, the Mickey medal for the next marathon will be redesigned to commemorate the 20th anniversary so it won’t look like the ones from the previous 2 years.

Plus there's supposed to be a "spectacular surprise" at mile 20.

Maybe I should start training for it just to see what this surprise is...

Yeah, I'm sure you didn't think the thread was going to turn out like this!

I've had back problems too - never had to have surgery though - and I find that running has actually helped my back feel better. Almost like it helps loosen it up or something, so I hope that the same happens for you as you begin to add jogging into your routine.

You're right that there are pace requirements for Disney races - you need to be able to keep a 16 min/mile pace, and there are lots of walkers at the Disney races. Why not try one of the half marathons coming up and then maybe shoot for building your strength up to try for walk/jogging the 2014 marathon?

Good luck with the back rehab!

All Disney race finishers get a medal. Even the kids at the kids races.

Since you have health issues that may limit you completing a full marathon, you may want to consider running the Tower of Terror 10 miler in Sept.
Of course at this time we have no idea what the medal is going to look like.
