You know what, you are completely right. I guess it's so early I'm not exactly clear-headed. I'm sure when I was thinking about creating this thread, I saw a big difference in the wand's size:hammer:

You`ve read in (one of) the other threads about the welding flashes last night and the second crane backstage? Makes me wonder if they are getting ready to lift the curve off. I`d imagine now the tower has gone the curve has shifted the center of gravity to over the wand and they`ll want it off ASAP - especially if the weather changes.

It is a strange time to remove the wand in the hurricane/rain season. April/May time would have been ideal weather wise.

I think we will see the arch come down in one piece using both cranes over the next couple of days then one will remain to remove the rest of the tower.
I noticed somewhere someone posted the cost of the crane hire, seems like it's not that expensive to remove this thing maybe under $100k? $50k crane hire, $20k staffing, $30k for landscaping.

September is the worst month for hurricanes (196 total in the month of September compared to a total of 25 in the month of July). By the looks of how fast this is happening, I think the only parts remaining in August/September will be the stripped base of the hand(s?). Not much to worry about during a hurricane (the whole thing has survived some big ones since 2004 anyway).

While that is a good point, "rainy season" usually is a short (45 minute or less) thunderstorm in the afternoon. We had rain every day for about a week, but have not had any in my area since Tuesday (I'm up in Jax, but central Florida is pretty much the same).

As for hurricane season, we USUALLY have almost a week's warning...so, if there was something coming, they could hurry and finish any work that may place the structure off balance, or reinforce any weak areas. While they don't take the crane all the way down every night, if there was a storm brewing, they could take the crane down. It might delay work a couple of days, but that's about it.

I grabbed pics this morning when I went, but not posting them because, like others said, not much has changed. If however you have an undying desire to see them, PM me and I'll gladly give you the links :)

Steve (or Mom). Given the ridiculous # of wand threads in here, is it possible to just sticky 1 or 2 of them (one for pictures one for comments)?

That is something that I find to be ineffective. HUGE threads with 1000's of posts are very difficult to follow for visitors, heavy on server resources, and are difficult to moderate.

The great thing about forums is that you can just skip threads that you dont want to read. :)

Quadrouple those numbers and you will be in the same area code as the ballpark...
