The projection system( http://www.wdwmagic.com/general_epcot_news.htm ) has already been installed...as for the wand coming down, I would say its probably a matter of time...some merchandise doesn't even show the word "epcot" and the wand on the EPCOT geosphere anymore, and I believe some of the planning videos don't show it either. I hope within the next year they take the darn thing off...

As for the hat at the Studios...I think that SHOULD stay, I think it makes the park less MGM and more Disney.
Here, Here! :sohappy:

All that rigging went up for the Millenium celebration but I guess it was more cost effective to leave it up and change the signage. I hope it comes down and that leave a legacy crap comes out. Looks like you are entering a quarry when you enter the park. Pretty craptacular if you ask me!

Love your avatar phlydude! If you look closely at my avatar, you might be able to see the phillies retro visor i'm wearing. :D

I also hate the wand. I love my pictures of spaceship earth pre-wand.
The projections look neat! I hope I get to see them when I come down in a few weeks.

I couldn't possibly hate the want anymore than I do. For the love of God, I know where I am. I don't need a sign -- a big, gaudy, ugly, goofy sign -- to tell me where...
ugh.
It just sucks.
If I could sneak into the park in the wee hours of the night and arrange explosives on the base of the structure to make it fall and not hit anything or hurt anyone, I would.
Actually, it's embarassing.

Wow... some of you guys really seem to really be bothered by the wand!!! :)

I guess I just don't see what all the fuss is about, but maybe they can figure out a way to make us all happy. Most seem to say they don't need a sign telling them where they are. In that case, what if they changed the word "Epcot" to something else or figured out a way to remove the text?

Would that make it more acceptable for you?

It actually used to say 2 0 0 0 for the millenium change. They took down the numbers and put up "Epcot". The whole thing needs to come down, no other word should replace it!

I actually like the wand....I know most WDW fans do not, but I think for the general public, it adds a bit more to the look of the park.

I think the majority of us dislike the wand because we saw EPCOT Center before 1999 or atleast during 1999. Spaceship Earth, from all it's concepts and drawings NEVER was intended to have a wand on it. It was supposed to be "clean" cut, and resemble our planet, in a futurustic touch.

I agree that the wand with 2000 was very neat and "different", just like the pepto cake in 1996 for the Magic Kingdom. Had they taken off the candles, and left the castle pastel pink with mints on it, people would walk down Maint Street U.S.A. with torches and wagons.

Spaceship Earth and the entrance to the old EPCOT Center does not deserve this. Already people, like myself are disgusted with the entrance. I don't mind leave-a-legacy, but honestly there is enough room for it to strattle between world showcase in future world in some landscaped park.

Spaceship Earth IS a great piece of architecture. It doesn't need a tacky sorcer mickey hand saying what park you are in, etc. The wand may come down as early as 2006, but 2008 looks like a better projected year. Don't ask me where I heard this, it was some time ago.

Before we know it 'Epcot' on the wand will read "vacancy" or "your advertisement here for the price of 1,000 dollars a minute". It's actually disgusting to think it has come to this. Really a wand on the first completely lifted geodesicsphere?! I mean shouldn't we still be celebrating that achievment, and not distort with the second rate vegas sign.

I think I am the one who first posted about some in Epcot management wanting to take down the wand in order to use the cool projection system.
(Someone can look, it may not have been me, but I think it was.)

Some projections were used on July4, and looked great. Perhaps a compromise has been reached? Maybe the wand will make way for even better projections?

Stay tuned.

And for the hat i found it cool at frist but could had put futher closer to the intrance to let the china theater picures still be taken.:veryconfu

The Wand will most likely be taken down. It am sure there is a large movement going on inside Disney to tear it down. (Roy E. Disney has probably said stuff about taking the wand down).

The Sphere is pretty beautiful. Especially at night but those colors really don't clash with the wand.

I say the want will most likely be down by 2012.

When I went down last August, it was the first time I had been there in about 10-12 years. I remembered seeing pictures of the wand when it said "2000" and thinking that it was kinda neat as long as it was only during the celebration. So when I got down there and saw the wand still up and it saying "Epcot," all I could think was "What in the heck is that still doing up? Don't they realize that it clashes with the theme of the park, which is technology, the future, and the global community? What does a magic wand have to do with that?" It just got me really annoyed. I loved the way that SSE looked without it, of course now that I've been to Epcot a bunch of times with that blasted thing still up there, if they take it down I'll feel relief, but also feel like something's missing now. Curse them!

Don't complain about the wand TOO much people....
...It could always be worse.

Now that ATT no longer sponsors this attraction someone else will.

How would ya like to see the hand holding a Giant COKE if the Coca Cola People decided to sponsor it.

Or even worse...what if Pfizer, the drug company that makes VIAGRA sponsored this attraction. eeeeeeek!! :dazzle:
