COVID has killed 1.7 million in a year, and that was with serious restrictions in place worldwide. And that's just cases that have been properly identified, which was hard to do in the early stages given the novel status of the virus.
Regardless, your claim lacks geographic context - Tuburculosis has never impacted US travel meaningfully because cases don't impact the US meaningfully. Which isn't to dismiss its negative impact in other countries, but we're talking about the impact of COVID on US airtravel.

And by the way, I DID do my own research, which is why I asked him to prove his point - because there has not been a “far worse and more virulent contagion” in the US in our lifetime.

It’s impossible to travel safely right now. You can take precautions, sure. But that’s where it ends. Traveling right now for pleasure is selfish. I'm not sure why certain people think people aren't flying into Orlando. You can go to the airport and see people getting on and off flights. I'm guessing these people haven't flown since Covid started. The airlines have reduced flights about 50%, but the flights they do have this week are full.
