People don’t want to wear masks ata a park. They are a HUGE part of he reason for the low crowds. If Disney was simply following FL “laws”, and let people be a little looser, the crowds would be much bigger.

But as others have said, there are few travelers. And why would there be? If you don’t have an AP, you are paying the same ticket prices that are the result of 5 years of massive increases.

And what are you REALLY getting that is better? Sure, for the crazies who cry when they ride various rides, they’ll be in heaven. But they also probably have APs.

For a normal visitors, no lines is cool, sort of. Sure, I have paid for many MNSSHP tickets for light crowds. But I also always watched the parade and fireworks.

Just how many folks REALLY want to just ride rides in just ONE park. Sure, the MK has some big thrill rides. But if they aren’t letting you walk up the Access Ramp from unload to Load for Space, you’ve got to walk a quarter mile to get back on. Splash isn’t much better. Are those damn trash cans still in the Little Mermaid queue preventing you from skipping a massive part of mindless queue?

Oh, but I can ride Pooh, IASW, and Peter Pan for an hour straight. Ummmm, NO.

The others three parks simply don’t have a days worth of rides if you aren’t waiting. Everest isn’t something worthy of 10 rides in a row. Nor is Kali. DInosaur would be if it were Indy. And I’m assuming RotR DOES have a line. And my arm can’t take riding TSMM 5 times in an hour.

If they offered Tickets priced like Universal, with park hopping, I’d be ready to go. I mean, who the heck wants to pay $100 to ride Frozen, Space, and Imagination all day? Soarin’ sucks even with no line. Although without the preshows maybe not so much.

Disney knows this too. They know they could greatly increase crowds practically overnight. They don’t seem to want to.

I do: People will be far more prone to remembering a bad experience and telling 10 other people about it, than simply not having an experience to share.

Personally, I'd much rather have no experience there than a bad one...Keeps a bad taste out of my mouth and keeps me looking forward to the next time, rather than wishing I hadn't experienced the last one and leaving less of a chance that I'll plan a return.

They may be looking short-term by attempting to stay at least barely margin-positive by being open, but the long-term consequences in terms of word-of-mouth of bad experiences may be even more devastating for future return-business...Then again, short-term taking priority over long-term has been their M.O. for about a generation now.
Very True, Is like the guy who is calling out Disney right now for the violating ADA act, one could argue that he should had read up on the policies disney enacted before hand and how strict they are, but anyone will always spread a negative experience faster than a positive one online

No masks aren't a huge part of the low crowds. The mask mandate isn't even a small part of it. For every person that is avoiding going to a theme park because they dont want to wear a mask, there's another 1-2 people that will refuse to go to a place where people aren't wearing masks - especially in a huge public setting like a theme park. When Vegas reopened - masks weren't required (only required if you sat at a table). Vegas still struggled to bring people in despite the lack of masks.

The reason for the low crowds are many; but the majority of it is due to the fact that people are scared to travel. The Florida market isn't big enough to support the parks on their own. Vegas is experiencing the same issue - their local market (including SoCal) isn't large enough to support it on it's own. Add to that, the fact that you're only getting half an experience at full price, people aren't going to come.

One of the head coaches who is 71 years old in the NBA bubble at WDW stated why he wears a mask, " I don't want to die ".

The only experience I have is mine. I hold a top level AP and live about 1.5 hours driving from the parks. I won't go if I have to wear a mask in this heat for more than 1/2 hour. My choice but I am not going if I have to mask in the heat. January? Sure, the oven is just set on warm not broil at that time so I would do it.

I have plenty of outside work to be done around the house but even that sits due to the heat. No mask required for but it can wait for cooler weather.

This is true. People just see things the way they want to see them and are often disconnected from reality. If masks were the big reason that WDW is empty then why aren’t the FL beaches packed with out of state tourists? You don’t have to wear a mask at the beach. People aren’t traveling yet. The poll that was posted said people aren’t ready to go back to a crowded place like a theme park. Taking away safety precautions won’t make that better it would make it worse. Disney has some of the best practices right now and a reputation for being safe and family friendly and that shows in the poll numbers too. The Disney numbers are still low, but higher than some of their competitors.

See we see the current hours the same way. We arrive Sunday and I'm super excited to have a slower trip
I actually cant remember how long it has been since I have been actually able to enjoy the parks. Stroll and take in the creative designs and hidden gems that are usually covered by the crowds of people!

Hope y'all are having a great time already!!

Guess you haven't been to a Florida beach , they have been as crowded or even more so than pre Covid times. Masks in the parks are a big issue preventing people from going, not 100% the reason but a significant one.

I have traveled to state parks, beaches and people are traveling. Airports are picking up as well. I have been on flights and traffic is increasing.

One quick comment about buffets. Used to be a fan up until about 10-12 years ago. I mean I just blocked out in my head that people were sneezing or coughing while they were getting their food because I liked them so much. Then I saw a kid with a spoon put it in mashed potatoes I think it was, eat it , then mom yell at him, then put the spoon back into the potatoes. Haven’t been to a buffet since. I would be all for buffets going to family style. But for buffets, I’ll save my money. Ok, back to topic.

People are still going to beaches because:

1. Even without masks, outdoor environments are safer in terms of airborne transmission
2. Yes, they are "crowded" (I go weekly) but everyone there, in my experience, are pretty respectful of the 6 ft. rule, and don't encroach on my space. Speaking from a top down view, it's fairly easy to "stretch" out the crowd and leave space for everyone that adheres to social distancing.

Of course, your mileage may vary

Air travel is completely down. People aren’t flying in to FL. That’s an absolute fact. 21M people live in the state. The beaches aren’t packed with tourists.

Again, anecdotal; but I have been seeing a ton of Northern license plates on my weekly beach trips in the parking lots. It's a rather "safe" vacation; hunker down in the airbnb by the beach, go and do beach activities daily; the restaurants out there are more outdoor then in with docks and patios, etc.; if I were a family of four, I would be doing a beach getaway for a week over say, Disney World.

There are a ton of people from northern states that have second homes in FL too. I know at least a dozen off the top of my head. I’m not here to tell people what to think. If you guys want to believe tourism is thriving and people are just avoiding WDW because of a mask rule then more power to you. It really makes no difference either way.
