Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

My fastest rD half at 2:49:25 and my 5th fastest half ever! I was really happy, considering how congested the course felt even compared to previous years. I canā€™t remember if this was the first year of the earlier start time or not, but I absolutely loved running through MK while it was still dark. As a slower, middle of the pack runner, itā€™s usually already sunny by the time I hit the TTC.

I hope everyone had a great run. It never got too warm. I wore my arm compression sleeves and was afraid Iā€™d regret it, but ended up keeping them on the whole time.

Oh and @DznyGrlSD - I think I saw you giving directions (the option to take the grass or paved road)? I did an awkward double take, and was going to stop, but saw you had a microphone and had to give repeated messaging, so I didnā€™t want to interrupt. So if that was you, a belated ā€œhello!ā€ and I hope you had a fun time this morning!

I saw our @DznyGrlSD and gave a quick hi and hug and yes that was her in the microphone!!! Leadership role at rD giving directions. Forum is proud!!

Great run this morning. Ran 75 seconds slower per mile bc of that dumb marathon tomorrow. Ha! Finished at 1:55

Sobbed running down Main Street. Gave me all the feels!

Congrats to all runners. WE DID IT!

How awesome! Your castle photos are amazing. I think I count two other runners behind you? When I ran (well, tried to run šŸ™„šŸ˜‚) through the castle, it was just a sea of humanity. Best of luck to you tomorrow - enjoy Typhoon!

I want to thank everyone here for letting me be my authentic Disney self all these years. RunDisney has always been great, and firming friendships with members here has always been fun. WineDine meet ups, registration complaints together, celebrating successes, and helping with training is a treat. Your support is great, and I love giving yā€™all my support!!

Happy Marathon Day tomorrow! Letā€™s do it!!

Those are some really great castle shots. That 50th crest really adds to the image.

Congrats!

Yeah, I got a bit weepy down Main Street. Perfect weather, happy with my time considering the walkers. Thanks to the runner yelling, "Make a hole!" :hilarious:

I guess S5 isn't important enough to get start line speakers. Couldn't hear a thing.

You faster runners may have missed this but at the 10K start Carissa and crew were telling runners to throw mylar at them. One of the guys said he was going to make a nest and stay there until Princess. :hilarious:

Great to see Jeff Galloway back. Passed him about mile 7 and looked like he was struggling. I wanted to say hi but thought better of it. Hope he finished.

The State Trooper playing Eye of the Tiger through his car PA was pretty awesome.

Heard a shoutout to a Titans fan. Was that our guy?

From what I have seen on YouTube, I have to comment on the Harm barges in the World Showcase lagoon.

Say what you will about the actual show but seeing the marathon logo during yesterdayā€™s 10K was pretty sweet. Also the lighting package on Spaceship Earth during a race was also pretty cool. Seeing those logos actually in the park was really cool, not sure why but I found it to be a nice touch.

Hope that is there during Springtime Surprise!

The Trooper was amazing! I heard the music while I was still approaching Tinkā€™s photo spot, so I was initially extremely confused as to what was happening. šŸ˜‚ He and Monorail Peach blaring its horn were two of my favorite random moments.

Have I told you lately that I šŸ‘ you?

Iā€™ve been going about the same (about 75-90 seconds off what my normal pace would be a month or two ago). I expect that might increase tomorrow, I havenā€™t run over a half marathon distance since May and seem to still be tiring a bit quicker since getting over Omicron, so hoping for 5:30 or better (would normally shoot for 4:45ish), but will be thrilled to just finish, haha!

Speaking of emotion, I loved running down Main Street too, then running toward the sunrise was beautiful. I rarely pull my phone out during a race, but made an exception:

Iā€™ve been wearing the same t-shirt for each of my Disney Half Marathons since I wore it for my first ever half in 2019 at the Star Wars Weekend. A good tradition, however, I think I need to start paying attention to where my medal is hanging, my post-race photos keep showing up as the ā€œASSHOLDERā€ šŸ¤£

Got a couple of hours of lazy river time at Typhoon Lagoon this afternoon trying to freshen the legs a bit and am excited/nervous to get going in the marathon! Good luck to everybody racing tomorrow!!

I have fond memories of the Wine and Dine meet ups and our time in the corral together! Being on this forum is such an addition to the races and it's why I keep coming back :)

Best of luck today! I have the live tracker active and you're in the last half of this marathon :)

No stories yet? Wish I could remember everything. Fellow runners were entertaining today. Heard a woman at about 23 say, "I'm going to finish. My oldest daughter said, please don't die Mom." Ran a bit with a guy dressed as Ursula. We were exiting Blizzard Beach. Someone entering said, "This looks terrible." Guy next to me, "It is."

Signs were ESPN Game Day quality. "You're doing a better job running the parks than Chapek." "You paid $680 for this. Only $206 to go." Wish I could remember more, they cracked me up. Outside of DHS, "Caution runners, bubbles ahead."

The heat was not bad thanks to a nice breeze. My goal was 5:30 but told myself be happy with beating 6 hours. Finished around 5:40 with a bathroom break. Very happy.

I'm calling this my first ultra because they start at 30 miles and I walked 4 miles before the race even started. Where's my Mickey Ultra medal?

And two Magical Moments this trip. Waiting for the bus to Epcot at SSR and a DVC van pulls up. "Who's going to Epcot?" Eight of us get a special ride to Epcot. Driver asked if anyone was running and I said, doing all four. Got big applause.

Went to the pool bar to get my post-marathon Coke, still in my running garb, and the bartender said this one's on the mouse. Free Coke!
