Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

I lost track of this thread I guess earlier this month. My guess is that they are just carving up Dopey Bibs and allowing more entries into other races as time goes on, but who knows. There wasn't a lot of time for people to ramp up training or find suitable lodging given that hotels were already pretty well booked.

Also I really liked going through WWoS but definitely seemed like more time there than necessary. I'm hoping that the previous change was due to road/bridge work at the Osceola Pkwy/World Dr interchange and not a permanent change to the course.

Of course they can and will switch it up whenever, but I wouldn't mind running through there and around the warning track again.

See the following link for what I assume was the reason for the change in the first place:

I really wish there was a way to contact Disney. I am sure it would work much better if they took out some of the "loops" at Wide World of Sports, and added a little to Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios. Look at the previous maps. It is very easy to see where these changes could be made while still covering the distance.

Hey, why not give it a try?

Honestly, yes I could. I have worked on setting up courses before, including the original course for the Ocean State Marathon
in Rhode Island all the way back in 1976. (also my first marathon) If you look at the foot prints of the parks, including WWoS,
adjustments could be made that would decrease the twists and turns at WWoS and increase the distance in both Animal Kingdom
and Disney Studios. Obviously it is Disney & Track Shack's choice, but don't tell me it can't be done, because I know it can.
Lots of things can be done but again there are a lot more logistics involved with with operating theme parks than just normal races outside. The marathon is secondary to the operations of the parks. The parks come first and the race is second. That is what I’m trying to get across.

I totally agree with that.

I suspect that runDisney has additional things to try to take into consideration when planning the course. IE it's much easier for them to have more of a course go by buildings, so they can have characters utilize existing infrastructure instead of having to rent an extra RV. Or park Ops may not allow them to use more than X amount of walkways, or they need to have a certain amount of crosswalks for park guests. Regardless, using anything that isn't actually functioning makes it much easier ops wise. IE they must love having MK cleared before park open now. They can open up that second lane on World Drive by Contemporary and make it much easier for guests.

That said, those twists & turns they have used in WWoS are a pain. It seems like entering the baseball stadium was a 270 degree turn left.

There would have to be big turns at entrance and exit of the stadium to avoid the course having an intersection. I agree that there were too many twists and turns in WWoS and they could cut back on that a bit and even add a tiny bit of the water park. or somewhere else

Have I told you lately that I 👍 you?
I love all the sliders, spinners, and two sided medals this year!!!

That said, all I can think about seeing the Dopey medal is a cheesy Weight Watchers before/after commercial 🤣:

The pictures aren't high enough quality but does the Dopey medal say "© Disney; Made In China" at the bottom left?

If it does, that's insanely dumb especially since the text is quite large

EDIT: Looks like all the medals have this text; but it's placed poorly on the dopey medal
