Walt Disney World 'Happiest Celebration on Earth' Comes to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Mickey Mouse and his friends will take to the streets of Broadway spreading holiday cheer to millions of children, as Walt Disney World Resort joins the 79th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The colorful cast of favorite Disney characters will share the excitement of the ongoing 50th anniversary celebration -- the 'Happiest Celebration on Earth,' marking five decades of Disney theme park magic.

To celebrate the milestone and to launch the holiday season, country music superstar LeAnn Rimes and a host of other performers will join famous Disney characters aboard the amazing Showboat float, a charming replica of the riverboats of yesteryear. Gliding down Broadway, the Showboat with the entire Disney crew on board will bring a bit of Disney magic to the gathered crowds as the Parade steps off the line of march at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Perched atop the "S.S. Celebration" Showboat, Rimes will sing "Remember When," the touching anthem for the "Happiest Celebration on Earth," Disney's first-ever global celebration. Like the celebration, the Richard Marx-penned song calls to mind the magic and lifetime of memories that Disney parks have brought to families over the decades.

The Showboat will be the largest vessel to ever float down the line of march as it prepares to make its voyage in the longest running show down Broadway. The "S.S. Celebration" Showboat stands at 33 feet tall (more than three stories high), 16 feet wide and 42 feet long. Complete with an authentic looking paddlewheel and twin smokestacks, the Showboat will be decked out with golden accents in honor of 50 years of Disney theme park magic.

"This spectacular float, a creative collaboration between the team at Macy's Parade Studio and Walt Disney World Resort, will provide the backdrop for one of the biggest and most elaborate production numbers in our long 79 year history," said Robin Hall, Executive Producer of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. "It will be a singular moment, featuring dozens of Disney icons and its brightest stars; a huge cast headed by Mickey Mouse himself and featuring the glorious LeAnn Rimes."

"Getting together with family and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an American tradition," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We're excited to share a bit of our 'Happiest Celebration on Earth' during this year's Parade -- bringing some Disney magic from Main Street U.S.A. to Broadway and to millions of families viewing the show across the country."

Is that, "Hmm...she's hot", or , "Hmm..If they think she is 'glorious' they are out of their minds"?;)

I wouldn't say shes ugly by any means, but glorious is taking it a little far.

Agreed.
I would still love to see this thing in person (the float, not the singer). This is the first year we are actually staying put for Thanksgiving, so we could actually drive up for the day to see the parade. Alas, the hubbie won't go. I have always wanted to see the parade live and now I really want to go.

WHAT?

Are the leaving us for New York? Disney has been part of the 6ABC/Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade here in Philly for several years (not sure how many, but for as long as I remember). Why would they leave us?

Before Thrawn says anything: Yes, I know Macy's Parade gets more publicity and offers more exposure for the characters.

Like you said, its more exposure. I'd never even heard of the Philly parade before. That said, how do you know they aren't doing both?

Um, I hoped they thought of that :lookaroun It would be a little odd to have Mickey and friends on TV appearing in both New York and Philadelphia around the same time. I'm usually back at home in PA for Thanksgiving weekend and tend to watch Macy's and switch between Philly's parade for the Disney segments. I wonder too if they've dropped themselves from that parade. My guess is yes. Does the 6ABC/Philly parade even play nationally or is it just a local thing? My guess is just local, but I don't know.

Well, I guess the could pull it off. I was going more on the "How can Mickey be in two places at once?" thing. But I know that I think of it, they could easily do the performances far enough apart (time-wise) to say the mickey and friends went and took Amtrack up to NY. I think they've actually done that a few times with some performers. As for "I'd never even heard of the Philly parade before." comment, enlighten yourself.

Most major cities have turkey day parades. I was just implying that the Philly one isn't a nationwide event. It isn't on TV nationally, so the "two places at once" doesn't hold it back too much, since the Philly parade is only going to the PA area.

As far as "enlighten yourself" goes, which city has the second most inflatibles in their parade?
I don't expect you to know, because it doesn't matter. Its a local parade for me, and I know, just like you know about the Philly one.

The answer is Stamford, CT if anyone cares.

This float sounds awfully familiar to the one they've used countless times in previous daytime parades in the Magic Kingdom...maybe taking it out of drydock?

If I remember correctly form last year, the parade is broacast over most of PA, NY, general Northeast area, VA, CA

Any other stations carring it are sporadically cast about the nation.
