Walt Disney World Airport

I found this article from 1999 about building an Airport on WDW Property. It is too long to post here, but here is a link to the story if you would like all the details:

Walt Disney World's Own Airport

From my understanding, the airport was to be built just south of 192. But since 1999, they have built the connector road from World Drive to I-4 and Celebration.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

No, I hadn't heard about the airport.

But having read about it on the link it sure seems like a possibility. Imagine, no rental cars, no driving, no nothing outside WDW. In fact they might insist on passports if guests decide they want to leave the "World"

I can see good and bad things from this. Guests trapped within the WDW complex from arrival to leaving - there is nothing else in Florida except the mouse.
Or a Disney vacation from the second you land to the moment you take off, everywhere cast members helping with luggage, taking it to your hotel while you make your first visit to the parks. In fact, when you return to your room they've even unpacked for you. !!!!

how do I put this as politely as I can..

that will NEVER happen. Not in this decade anyway.

I read the article word for word, and it doesn't look like an article that would be found in any legitimate news source, and nothing like a WDW Press release. It looks like a letter sent to WDI or WDW management trying to sell them on getting an airport.

I highly doubt that was even that much.

Wouldn't that be better than having a monorail go to the Orlando International Airport?:D Anyway, it would be nice for me as a pilot to land at WDW and hop on a bus to my resort in 15-20 minutes!

That would be cool to have the monorail going to the airport, i have to admit Disney having an Airport itself would also be cool, but i highly doubt that its goign to happen..

1. U have a local airport about 20minutes from Disney, The Orlando Airport.
2. Would planes really transfer flying from Colombus to Disney?

I think that u would have to have other Disney Airports in for this to happen, Other flights would just fly to Orlando.

along these same lines, i don't think that there would possably be a way to fill an airplane will Disney-bound passangers from any one city, on a daily basis. i picture a lot of 1/8 full (or less)jets flying into disney world. i just don't think WDW is big enough to financially justify having its own public airport.

Degunter.. I just spent the last half hour reading this link to that article. This j thaddaus weasle is just that a weasle. He is trying to put some spin on disney and lend credibility to himself.

While the elements do have a basis in fact, these oppertunities died with Walt. These concepts where part of the original Disney World( not the Walt Disney World that Roy compleated to honor his Brother) that included the original E.P.C.O.T concept plan.

The agreement for Reedy Creek was lobbied by walt and approved before one tree was feld and one shovel of earth was moved. Walt didn't realize he was dieing at the time and thought he would be aroun for at least fifteen more years to compleat the whole project into 1986.

Yes there is the authotity to build an airport, But what Weasel has failed to mention was that the urban and suburban utopia that he wanted to build would usually have its own airport like any big city and in 1966 when when disney wanted to get started building E.P.C.O.T. it was to be larger that the the entire ciity of Orlando was in 1966 and the original orlando airport called McCord had less than 10 gates and was never going to handel the large crouds that Walt expected not like the new behemoth there at Orlando International.

This will never happen today especially with the flight path of Orlando International over that spot and Disney would not spend 20 Billion to build an airport if they are unwilling to spend one Billion to upgrade the monorail. And when he mentions a monorail to the airport he is refering to another rumor related to the expansion of the Monorail. line that I heard a rumor of expansion to include the new Orlando International back in 90 and you see where thats been.

since my time is short ill end it here, I will post a more detailed reply later with some concept art to show this later

True ...... this is another example where we clash a nice wonderful concept with the realities of Logistics and money

Yeah This is not going to happen, Orlando International Is a few minutes from Disney... Maybe 20minutes. I dont think u would c as many people flying WDW Airlines anyways.. Alot of people r going to Orlando for other stuff and not just Disney..

They can do it easiest by going to the Orlando International and just staying in the Disney Resort somewhere..

Yes, i agree with u too, Disney wouldn't be able to financially hold a Airport on Disney property.. or anywhere for that matter. It wouldn't work.

maybe it would be possable for disney to work with orlando airport, in some way. have people there to help WDW guests, and make sure they all have transportation to the parks or something. that would be nice.

Yes, it would be nice, but Then Universal would need one and Sea World, and that wouldn't be possible cause Anhiezer Busch Parks r in Tampa and Orlando.

Does anyone know how to change the font color of what your saying under the words what u want to appear under your comments?

heres one thing that will stop that-CELEBRATION.the celebration company will sell no new homes if buyers here of an airport right next door-noones gonna spend 300k-million to listen to jets landing all hours of the day and night over there homes

Well, I think no one ever said that it would happen in this decade. I never expect any of these rumored projects to begin for, well, a couple decades. If Disney wanted to do this in the far future, I'm sure they would find a way to do it, but I doubt that they want an airport that bad right now, or ever.

Would it be possible for Disney to start their own airlines for the Orlando airport? "Disney Airlines" mabey. (creative name, huh?)

A lot of ecpenditures for this airport that you want to see built, are we forgetting that some of us are really dissapointted with the current upkeep at WDW and Disney is saying its money for not keeping up with it.

Also after 9/11 there would be a considerable cost for security alone with an airport so just belive me when I say that if Walt lived and built his E.P.C.O.T there would be one and compeating with the old McC0rd reginal airport that there was in 70 since he is sadly gone for 35 years now it will never happen,

BTW I hear that disney has been in a squable with osceola county over real estate taxes so very little if anything except celebration will be built south of 192

this is where most of the 12,000 or so acares they are putting aside for wildlife is going to be

A lot of Celebration has already been built. I couldn't tell ya where on Disney's property it is though.
