Walt Disney Imagineering move Scott Trowbridge to a new dedicated Star Wars Studio at WDI

I wonder how much of what they want to do is still in the design process and contingent on what is going to be shown in the upcoming films. If JJ Abrams walks in and says: "On this planet all the trees are purple" then they have to scrap whatever they had planned and start again? I imaginevthey would stick with established locations for now

Some have said that part of the reason for the delay in announcing plans for Star Wars in the parks is because they want to integrate worlds from the new films into it. So, WDI has had to wait for the movie folks to get some finalization of scripts and scene development before getting into the heart of their work.

Anyhow, I actually believe that we'll see something related to Star Wars in WDW in the nearer future (say, 2016-17 timefame) but it would be something smaller like converting Backlot Express into a Mos Eisley cantina.

Which is fine with me really. I want them to do it right.

BUT - if they put on the jets they could absolutely build it quick.

I think you are probably right. However, IMHO they should focus the overall land on the original movies. With the primary landscape being Tatoine with the Cantina. I would love a walk in Millenium Flacon too even if it's just a restaurant. They could have some secondary attractions, restaurants, meet and greets and gift shops that span all 9 movies (is it 9 or are there plans for even more?). If they add a phase 2 it could feature a ride based on one of the new movies. If the primary attraction ends up being based on less main stream characters from the new movie it won't be as epic. Maybe add some of the new characters to the Star Wars parade.

With this information as well as the Epcot news, it almost seems like the powers that be have been reading this forum. I am somewhat pleased that they are "listening" but don't expect anything in the way of announcements or actual implementation for many years. I'll keep my eyes and ears open and will likely be drooling over concept art in a few years as any progress drags on incessantly.

If they fix the Yeti, bring back unlimited soda for all and ban strollers I would definitely agree they are using this board to build a game plan;)

They are aware of the overall negative Zeigeist of the WDW fan community. They also have to know that eventually they have to turn the tide. I don't subscribe to the belief that they believe they can ignore it forever.

I will remain cautiously optimistic with EPCOT. Fitzgerald is definitely mixed, and I'm not crazy about hearing what he's done behind the scenes, but it's probably going to be the best chance we have for quite a while at having some hope for EPCOT's future. He did have a hand in some classic EPCOT attractions. And I also don't think they'll make the same mistake three times with Figment. But we shall see. I don't expect anything for either park for a while, probably between 2015 (starting with Soarin') through 2021 (MK's 50th). However, Cars Land was (though not anymore, obviously ... lol) practically greenlit for DHS so IF they had gone with that back in 2012/2013, we'd have construction in 3 parks and DTD (and AK has construction too, with more starting now, so that would be all 4 parks and DTD). So I don't see that holding them back if they REALLY wanted to get going.

I'd assume (and all of this is just assumption and basing it on their sloooow track record) they want the parks to be in far better shape by the 50th, though they really shouldn't put EPCOT and DHS off anymore.

Time to stop being cheap and get moving.

Just for reference, not that most don't know this, but they clearly missed the boat this year for DHS' 25th anniversary (they should have greenlit a different version of Cars and the Monsters coaster). MK's 45th is 2016 (I assume this is why they are re-doing the hub and Spirit keeps saying a replacement for Wishes is coming by then). EPCOT's 35th is 2017 and AK's 20th is 2018. Seems like perfect timing for a lot of changes to start taking place, but they haven't relied on anniversaries in a long time. They need to start. And DHS' 30th is 2019. Could fit a five year plan 2014 through 2019. Or they can push it to 2021 for the entire resort (MK would turn 50 and Epcot would turn 40 in 2022).

Just some rambling ... LOL

The Epcot Manifesto
My gut has more hope for this than the EPCOT reorganization. Perhaps, I have almost completely given up on EPCOT. However, I'd like to think that the expansion of SW in the Studios is such a no-brainer that almost no one could blow it.

Well, I think DL is getting Star Wars.. and I don't know why...

This could be the opening line of my hit musical, "Giant Themed Park Spectacular!" Can you sing? Tap dance? Would you mind coming on stage where a Darth Vader "World's Greatest Dad t-shirt" and a pack as the music swells?

Look, I'm trying to be positive about this...

I think it's clear if people even read the boards that DL is likely to get Star Wars Land before DHS. Even though it should be the other way around, simply because it just fits DHS better, considering they already have, you know, a mini Star Wars area, and DL's would be the further detheming of Tomorrowland (unless that's changed).

If they are just putting together a Star Wars project team now then we are at least 3-5 years from an announcement much less actual opening date for new rides, shows, lands and attractions

I think it has been pretty much established that Pandora was delayed due to the delay in the sequels. They want to have there be synergy between the movies and the attractions.

And since they are developing new technologies it also takes time. If you rush these type projects you end up with unforeseen problems potentially. Murphy lives and so does his law.
