Walls up in PoC line

Really? So interactive elements aren't immersive? So the Dumbo queue is poorly themed?
Seems like the skeptics are in full-on hyperbole mode with this one.

There is no dumbing down the queues. There is no attempt to keep attention. It's a line. People are standing around waiting. They are breaking up the monotony with giving you something to play with or interact with. Pirates hardly ever has a line, certainly not that far back. This will probably be a neat little plus that stays in line with the theme. It's not going to be some wacky skeleton that tells corny jokes or something otherwise mismatching the darker theme of the ride. And worst case scenario, it's something you'll just walk past without a second glance much like what was there previously.

Read my post ... I said displays, not elements. Disney has been doing interactive elements in their ques for a long time. Elements -vs- Displays with videos and video games are two different things and do 'dumb' down the experience. Interactive elements are fine provided they do not revolve around an iPad or video screen.

I commend Disney for "keeping up w/ the times". I don't know what they're doing to the POTC queue, but whatever it is I am sure it'll be great! (Fingers crossed).;)

Tonight the right side was re-routed up a small stairwell right before boarding and the doorway and hall that is normally used was boarded up..And I believe there was a scrim covering chess playing scene (or I just missed it as I was walking through with a 2 year old), Also unrelated to the queue changes there were no twinkling lights in final scene..

I agree. I would bet that if the technology that we have now was available when rides like POTC were built, there would have been screens in use in the line.

That is not necessarily true especially when interactive elements are involved.

I couldnt agree more 100%!!! im so annoyed that they even messed with it to begin with by putting johnny depps face in every scene of the attraction. Its over kill with johnny depp everywhere and he doesnt fit in with the rest of the attraction. LEAVE POC ALONE!!

He's not in "every scene of the attraction." Jack Sparrow appears a total of three times during the eight and a half minute boat ride.

True but they turned the heart of the ride into a completely nonsensical storyline revolving around him.

I would have loved the attraction to go unchanged, including the previous efforts to make it a more "politically correct" ride, however I think the addition of Sparrow was executed as well as possible. Once Depp's character raked in a ton of money at the box office everyone knew this was an inevitability. It just seems to me the designers did their best to keep the integrity of the ride intact while finding ways to add Jacks presence. I'm all for the additions to the queue area as long as they are tasteful and well thought out. Hopefully that's not asking too much.

The problem is not that they added Jack to the ride, It's that they changed the ride to revolve around him.

Like Mike said, the addition of Jack was done as tastefully as possible and I personally have never thought the ride now revolves around him. They could have gone a lot further, featuring him more prominently through-out the ride, but instead chose to feature him rather candidly, with the exception of the Treasure Room scene. But lets face it, the pirate that was there before was pretty freaky and I have no issues with Jack replacing him. Between the addition of Jack and the PC revisions made in the 90's....I gotta say I found the PC revisions MUCH more appalling!

It seems like whenever a revision is made to a classic ride, there is always an element on these boards that resists change of any kind. I agree that some changes have been made to some attractions within the parks that have not been "optimal", but by and large Imagineering has gotten it right. The hitchhiking scene in HM is a great example. When they are wrong they have also shown they can eventually admit it. The Tiki Room proves that. My point is, let's see what they do to the Pirates line, and approach it with open minds. If the changes to POC sucks, then at that point we need to let them know. Until we see what they have done however, we need to be open to the idea that these changes could be marvelous.

My issue with the PoC que is that it doesn't need these interactive elements. It's not as if you routinely wait 60 minutes for Pirates, standing still constantly. It's a fast paced line. Same with HM. I think these are two attractions where this just isn't needed. I think the real problem is that they MUST be anticipating long, slow waits on that side of the que, or they wouldn't be doing this. When FP+ rolls out, it makes previously fast-moving ques crawl. Which would you rather have... A fast moving line that gets you on the attraction faster, or a longer wait where your pacified with interactive elements?

As for quality... While I'll give it a chance, I definitely worry. I've got a handful of issues with the HM que. I don't hate it... But I wouldn't say I like it. And space... Don't get me started. I DO hate that one. The instrumental, "spacey" music is completely drowned out by beeps and boops and explosions. I really believe that que was ruined by the games.

So we'll see...

I don't. They would have been fools not to. People are just not impressed with stationary canons any more. They expect something better.
See, I expect something better than a screen. I can see high-resolution images on the very screen I'm looking at now. I'm much more impressed by great set design than a screen. (The mist screens in POTC, for example, are nothing compared to that wonderful moment when you are bracketed by the ship and the fort.)

I know there are children you can take to someplace like the Grand Canyon who'd rather play with an iPad than look at it, but that doesn't mean that God missed a chance when he didn't put holograms there.

And if I want to push buttons and make things respond, my computer is more than up to the task. I don't understand why people crave more "interactivity" at Disney when it generally means something far less sophisticated than the games on their phone.

All right, I know I sound like a cranky old man here. But geez, the WDW POTC queue, in original form, is the gold standard of queues. I still remember my dad taking me on the ride when I was six, and there weren't many people in line so it felt like it was just the two of us, and I tugged on his arm and asked, "Are you sure this is the way to the ride?" Because to my eyes it looked like we had just wandered into an abandoned fort. If my daughter, who is six now, expects "something better" than that, I think I'll scream.
