Walls in HM Queue

More than often TDO doesn't have anything to do with the maintenence of attractions other than employing people to do the job. But the maintenence department in my mind have been given too much authority to determine what gets fixed and what doesn't. Most of Dinosaur's missing effetcs are due to the fact that maintenence doesn't want to bother with them anymore because certain ones are prone to constant break downs. Park Operations will bend backwards to please them but in the end it's maintenence that has complete control over an attraction and they use that power to it's full extent. At a starting rate of $29.75/hour you would be more dedicated. Even as I write this from work, 2 maintenence CMs are sleeping in ride vehicles and another 3 have been sleeping in the tunnel break room for two hours or more. It's such a common thing that it seems to be expected.

As I thought. It is one of my gripes here that people assume everything is managements fault and never consider maintenance may not be doing everything they are supposed to be doing. It can be either.

Please don't go, Raven. I really appreciate how you've been helping out us crazy fans the past several months (some of us crazier than others). I'm really glad you've been here for us, so please don't become a lurker because of some whiners.:(

Oh I'm not going anywhere. Just going to be keeping quiet a little more now on details about upcoming projects. I've been very fortunate to be in the know about this any many more upcoming projects that no one even knows about yet.

It's just a shame that someone can take a tiny bit of information and turn it negative before they even know all of the details. The worst part is that they post this information on other Disney fan sites as being "a graveyard destruction" or "a demolition" making up people's minds for them before they have a chance to make their own opinion about things. They will just have to get their news elswhere now and I will just be sitting back watching false information being passed around.

As one who was potentially one of the "whiners" do misconstrue information, I'll say I didn't mean to drive you away from posting, Raven. :( I'm just a bit of theme purist and I was thinking out loud about what kind of effect these changes might have about the Haunted Mansion. Of course I realize that nothing is conclusive, and I'll be more than happy to eat my words once the new queue premieres. :)

sooooo people are mad because WDW is finally getting an awesome queue line?

make up your minds! do you want old, run-down WDW or do you want new and innovative?

you complain about lake of innovation and then when it finally happens you whine because a couple of tombstones are moving

I'll take old and run down, thank you very much. It fits.

I do not find the idea of this interactive queue addition to be "awesome".

I have mixed thoughts on this. I am partly optomistic because it does sound so far like it will be really cool and a neat addition. But I'm also skeptical because we've seen Disney ruin things with poorly executed "interactive" things like SSE, SM queue, etc.

I just hope its really cool and clever, yet subtle and not too "in your face."

Yes take your ball and go home. I guess people can only comment on upcoming changes if they are positive comments eh? Everyone knows Disney has NEVER made a bad decision and we should all blindly accept everything without question!

Oh, please. Be a bit more realistic. The point raven was trying to make was that folks are already complaining about the new queue that doesn't even exist yet before they know anything about what it will entail. I understand the cynicism and the hesitation to accept the change, but with all due respect none of us (except raven and the insiders) know anything about the project, so to blast the project before the first shovel of dirt is dug or Disney releases any sort of information is just a bit judgmental.

Personally, I think people are just afraid of change. I'm sure most of you would be content with switchbacks and reading a few gravestones, but I'd be happier with switchbacks, the gravestones, and interactive queue features. I guess most posters missed what Steve said about the "vast majority" of the original gravestones being retained, so for those worried about the gravestones, rest assured you'll be seeing most of them again. I'm happy I'll have something to do when I'm waiting in line.

While I agree with you in spirit 100%, I do have to point out a minor flaw in these types of arguments. Yes, it is thoroughly wrong to bash something that hasn't been completed yet. But is it any different to praise a project before it has been completed. After all, one would be basing that praise "before the first shovel of dirt is dug or Disney releases any sort of information"... it is "just a big judgmental" as well. :animwink:

Again, completely agree with you in spirit. But perhaps choosing to live in a perfectly positive bubble is just as bad as being a cynical humbug.

You are correct, I did sound a bit too optimistic in my post. I try my best to be open-minded (I have made quite a few negative posts on here before) but given the insiders' defense of the queue, I figured the new changes can't be all of that bad. Regardless, it was no excuse for me to be hypocritical. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

No, but incessant comments through the "TDO is evil" prism doesn't always make much sense either. Especially for a project barely under way, and with bollocks for rumors being floated about it. Perhaps a wee bit of patience would be in order before decrying this project as another Charlie-Foxtrot....

Is there a guess on when the upgrades will be finished?

A couple months...

They've actually been pretty efficient with their refurbs in recent history (contrary to what most people believe - it's extremely hard to be productive when you often only work 3rd shift and you are surrounded by guests and plywood walls), and based on the scope of work that I've been able to decipher so far, this shouldn't take forever.

Does anyone have any specific info about operational problems with the existing HM queue layout?

I'm glad to see Disney making aesthetic enhancements when given the opportunity. But obviously this wouldn't be done if there wasn't an operational need for a re-designed queue (this isn't just throwing out a few new props like the newer Leota tombstone. This is major construction.)

I saw somewhere that the new queue layout will be fully wheelchair accessible. Does the current "Servant's Quarters" wheelchair entrance cause staffing or capacity issues?

Or are there any future plans for that "Servant's Quarters" space--- such as a gift shop or something? (Although not large enough for one on its own, it could certainly be incorporated into the existing exit tunnel and new construction if needed).

Or does this new HM queue layout have anything to do with the Fantasyland Expansion, and the rumors of opening up the tunnel between FL and LS near the Skyway? If that small store were to be removed to open up traffic flow, then the HM overflow queue might get in the way. By re-routing HM visitors closer to the water and further "up-river", that LS/FL transition would be even less congested.

I think they're gradually going for a more cohesive experience for all of their guests. What I mean is, guests with special needs (that merely limit them to wheelchairs and ECVs) will get to/have to (depening on your point of view) experience the real queues now.

The current system of ushering them in through back doors and exit ramps mmight sound great to the ones who like line-jumping, but many of them want to feel "normal" and go thru the normal queue. Besides, on rides like HM, the Servants Entrance takes them immediately into the load area, so wheelchair bound guests never get to experience the stretch rooms.

So, I think this is being done partly to make everyone feel more equal...and also to add some new, but appropriate, technology to the queue.

This is what I was thinking as well. Guests in wheelchairs and ECV's miss quite a bit with the current system in the HM. I also think there is a move to remove the negative stigma that people in wheelchairs and ECV's skip the lines.

Yes. This is what I wanted to say, but I used far too many words, as usual :p
