Walls down around the New Fantasyland DVC kiosk

i wonder how many new DVC members they get a day. i assume it is worth the expense since one sale is a minimum $20k. it takes a lot of dinglehoppers and other trinkets to get to $20k. i will say i like that the dvc people don't try to grab people from the walkways to come in. they only talk to you if you ask them questions. being a dvc member, i guess that was one of the things we liked. there was no pressure. however, i would think all of us reading this would love more pics of a store rather than an empty facade.

Also in defense to building this DVC location, there *was* one that was removed way back at the start of the project that was between Dumbo's old location and the old Ariel's Grotto.

Are people really complaining that there isn't a gift shop on the back side of the Seven Dwarves Mine Coaster? That walkway is simply to get from one point to another and so there is a DVC stand inside a beautiful building which most of us will never visit but it doesn't prevent the presence of everything else you want - water fountains, restrooms, food and beverage locations and yes, gift shops. We can find all of those things within a short walk of this location.

I'm guessing that the number of people who would complain if Disney sold $20 souvenir forks to kids would be greater than the number of people who complain that Disney doesn't. (But Mom, it's a Dingle-hopper!)

I'm pretty sure Disney already sells overpriced dinglehoppers (I've seen pictures of them) - they're just sold in parts of Fantasyland where they don't make sense.

Plus, since the Little Mermaid attraction is such a huge anchor for New Fantasyland (along with an Ariel meet and greet), this is one place where a gift shop would've been logical.

I think most people want an attraction first, failing that maybe some kind of food, or failing that a shop. A DVC kiosk is probably last on most people's wish list. A shop was probably the best most we're hoping for.

Thanks to the excellent reporting in your forums, we all knew no more attractions were going to be behind that construction wall. I mean, there is a pretty large attraction already under construction there, right?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I saw new food and merchandise locations and even phone charging stations installed in New Fantasyland already. Healthy snacks in the Little Mermaid area: http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/fantasyland/news/23aug2013-prince-eric's-village-market-opening-next-week-offering-healthy-snacks-in-the-new-fantasyland.htm
Merchandise in Beauty and the Beast area: http://land.allears.net/blogs/kristin-ford/2012/10/save_those_disney_dollars_new.html

Personally, I'm grateful the construction walls are coming down and we can just enjoy the design of the land as we are walking from the Beauty and the Beast area to the Little Mermaid area of the expansion, or from the Little Mermaid area to the circus area. If they had put a Little Mermaid merchandise shop in the space, sure that would have been okay, but the fact they didn't is nothing for me to get bent about.

Well, the area can now pride itself on two "best themed" awards for the resort:
  1. Best themed restrooms: Tangled restrooms
  2. Best themed DVC stand: Little Mermaid area
Congratulations to Fantasyland on these honors. They are well deserved and have been (much too) long in the making.
What are you talking about? I think these two projects were so monumental Holmes deserved his shrine. :p

One problem with a DVC location is that it doesn't help to absorb crowds, like a shop might. And really, dedicated DVC locations? Put a kiosk in every resort (which there already is) and done. Honestly, it doesn't bother me either way - just sayin'.

What do you think this is? An 'Unofficial Disney World Fan Site'?

It changed to an 'Official WDW Bashing Site' years ago.

It's neither. It is a site to discuss all things Disney. Both good and bad.

Not everything in this world is unicorns and rainbows. ;)

Looks like there should be a new section for the Good things then because I believe all the threads for the past couple of years have been pretty much all bad.

Well, you can look at this three ways;

1) It is indicative of a growing trend with Disney, the parks, etc.
2) People have run out of good things to say (hard to believe)
3) Someone is focusing on particular threads over others

Generally, and this applies to most forums, is that people are quick to criticize something they perceive as bad - and these people are often the most vocal. When things meet expectations, they don't go out of their way to post "everything was as expected." Equally as rare are those that post about expectations being exceeded; but only because they are indeed "atypical events."

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
If it was a merchandise location, the same people would spew the same disdain.
I don't think so.
A well themed, dedicated shop with unique merchandise would be much appreciated by most of the little girls leaving the ride or the Ariel meet & greet.

Slight aside here - how successful are these DVC kiosks? Visiting parks (usually 2 parks/day) for 10 days for years, I have seldom seen anyone engaging in serious discussion in any of these locations. Heck, I have rarely seen anyone even stop.
