Walking in the World

I don't remember seeing sidewalks at WDW. Using the buses and boats and monorails (and even a rental car) is the most time-efficient way to get around. But I'm wondering whether I could simply walk from one place to another. Is it permitted? Or frowned-upon? Would it be okay to walk from, let's say, AS Movies to Blizzard Beach? Or what if we leave Blizzard Beach and instead of taking a motorcoach, could we just walk back to AS Movies?

There are certain places you can walk to and from...such as boardwalk resorts to MGM, and epcot, and also old key west to downtown disney....but i would definetly say outside of those it is extremely walker UN-friendly...we usually drive down, so we have a car, and we find that the best way to get around.

Like it was said, you can only walk where Disney sort of advertises you can walk. Otherwise you can't.

So to answer your question...No you can't walk from the All Stars to Blizzard Beach. You have to take a bus or car.

Yep there are very very few sidewalks linking resorts or parks. It would also not be smart to walk in the street there since people drive 100mph :(

Thanks for your input.

However, it's obvious one CAN walk from ASMO to BB. My question was whether one MAY do so. If it is not permitted, what might the penalty/punishment be?

Also, would you have a link to support your answer? I'm wondering whether you have run afoul of this Disney "law" or alternatively, how is it you know this?

Please don't misunderstand. I don't doubt that practically everyone who has never seen anyone walking outside the designated areas would simply assume that it's not allowed. Myself included. :)

I think it's just *prefered* that you do not walk from one place to another unless designated. This is for safety reasons. Could you imagine all the lawsuits?

I am guessing that disney wants to keep it as safe for their guests as possible, so they provide you transportation. Whether or not there is a penalty/fine I have no idea. You could PM an official cast member of the boards (we even have some on here that are specifically transportation CMs) and ask them.

Have a wonderful day, and good luck with your quest for knowledge. :D

IMHO, if there are no sidewalks, it is not a good idea to walk.

Walking in the road is not the safest, especially with drivers who
--drive 100 mph
--are unfamiliar with where they are going, and are watching for signs rather than people walking in the street.

PLUS--it is HOT in Florida. You wouldn't want to get halfway there and p0op out.

Why would you want to walk?

I don't mean to cause a ruckus. (That's a funny word, is it not?)
I like to walk. Sometimes I like to walk more than I like to sit on my ____, uh, wallet.

In any case, thanks One Lil Spark. I'll post here if I learn anything interesting.

Everyone please go back to your regularly scheduled activities... :brick:

Agree... and what you think is "grass" could be a little swamp too. There is water everywhere you look!

Now, I am going back to my regularly scheduled activities.

I know that I have seen people walking on the sidewalk between AS and BB. I don't recall if they actually connect and I have no idea where the people I saw walking were coming from or going to.

However, since there is a sidewalk I am pretty sure you won't have any trouble walking on it. After all, that's what sidewalks are for and if Disney wanted you NOT to walk there, they wouldn't have built it.

If it is not permitted, what might the penalty/punishment be?

Let's assume that walking on the sidewalk is NOT PERMITTED, I would bet that if you were "caught" doing it you would be politely told to stop, not to do it again and they might even offer you a ride to your destination. As long as you stay friendly and understanding, everything will be fine.

I say walk on it if you want to. Any "trouble" you get into would be minor, if any. You might even get to BB faster than you would had you waited for the bus.

If you don't want to chance it, you can always ask when you check in at your hotel.

2 years ago I walked from Wilderness Lodge to the Trans and ticket center and I got yelled at! They told me "thats what the transportation is for, it's too dangerous to walk"

Is this a great forum or what!

Hey, thanks WDW John.

All this talk about sidewalks reminds me of parkways and driveways. To wit (whatever that means): why is it, do you suppose, that we drive on parkways, but we park on driveways?

I walked from AS Movies to Blizzard Beach. Not only is it permitted, it can be very pleasant in the morning shade with nice views of plants and birds and stuff like that. I actually walked all the way to Coronado Springs. :king:

I though it was considered distinctly un-American to walk anywhere (other than when dressed in a designer tracksuit and carrying little weights around a shopping centre, because that is “exercise”.

It’s refreshing to see people enjoying the simple activity that is putting one foot in front of the other then repeating the process.

As far a walking between Disney locations, a number of years I walked from the Magic Kingdom entrance to the Contemporary resort (I was not staying there, just went for a nose and to play in a water sprite). When I tried to walk back from Contemporary to Magic Kingdom a security guard was quite surly with me and refused to let me past as I was not a resort guest. My annual pass (in the days when it had your photo on it) did nothing to placate him. So instead of a nice stroll of a couple of hundred yards I had to double back to the hotel and wait for the next monorail and ride it all the way around until it got back to Magic Kingdom.

:lookaroun  :D I was waiting for someone to mention something like that!

I wouldn't mind walking to the parks, but after a whole day walking around one of them, I wouldn't really like walking back to the hotel :D

I think it would be cool to walk all the way around the 7 seas lagoon.. if they ever actually add/finish the walkway in certain areas.

My understanding is that if there are sidewalks, you're allowed to walk. If there aren't any, WDW doesn't want you walking there.

There is DEFINITELY no walking outside of AKL! I have witnessed two incidents where security have picked up pedestrians, and once where a bus driver picked up a couple and brought them back to the lodge before continuing our trip.
