Walking between Resorts

Is it possible to walk between resorts, specifically between Port Orleans Riverside and the Disney Swan and Dolphin. A 3 mile walk is no problem, but the last time I was at DisneyWorld it seemed as if walking between resorts was actively discouraged.

Thanks,
Mike

WDW is not set up like a regular neighborhood. Once you are outside the resorts it is almost like highway driving. The speeds are pretty fast and there are not sidewalks. Some paths you would have no choice but to walk actually in the street like over the bridges which is very dangerous.

Hmmm. Has anyone ever compiled a list of resorts you could walk between?

1) Beach Club - Yacht Club - Boardwalk - Swan - Dolphin + (Epcot/Hollywood Studios)
2) Grand Floridian - Polynesian + (Transportation & Ticket Center)
3) Wilderness Lodge - Fort Wilderness (probably daytime only)
4) Pop Century - Art of Animation
5) Port Orleans Riverside - Port Orleans French Quarter
6) Old Key West - Saratoga Springs + (Disney Springs)
7) All Star Sports - All Star Music - All Star Movies

I think that covers it

I think no. 6 would only apply during the day time too, between OKW and SSR. I don’t think that path is lit at night.

There is actually a sidewalk that runs from the All Stars all the way to Coronado. Blizzard Beach would fall along that route as well.

Shades of Green is also a very safe and totally legal walk from the Poly and GF. Just to clarify, you basically just walk to the very western edge of the Poly if you're coming from the GF to get to the SoG resort.

For the example you gave, no. The same is true for many of the other resorts as well.

There are only a handful that can be walked to and from without having to walk along a highway. Disney security will often pick you up if they see walking along the highway.

This happened to myself and couple of buddies back in the day. We were at the Contemporary in the old basement arcade and lost tract of time and missed the last buses and monorail. We started walking back to the Polynesian (where I has staying) and they were staying at GF. We just about got to the TTC and Disney security picked us up, asked what we were doing and then drove us back to our resorts.

Yeah. For anyone wondering how you can tell what is legal or allowed or not - you can basically tell which walkways/paths are legal and which resorts are intended to connect if they have a designated crosswalk on the highway along the sidewalk's path. Both the Shades of Green path and the AS and Coronado walkways have crosswalks crossing the highways, so they were designed for pedestrians/foot traffic.

While not advisable and certainly not easy or pleasant it is technically possible and legal to walk along the roadways. See the link below for the laws regarding walking on roads with and without sidewalks. Now if Disney security wants to give you a free ride that's great, but if you insist on walking there's nothing at all they can do. They're public roadways (with a few small exceptions) and since they're not Disney property you have as much a right to use them as they do.

Yeah, I guess I should say legally AND safely lol I wouldn't want to walk in the grass or sides of the road in the day, let alone at night. Not only because of the cars speeding by, but there definitely could be some critters lurking.

Not to mention the bridges that have little to no shoulder. Very dangerous.

We ride our Bikes at night between Ft Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. We have lights on the bikes and it is cool because of the wildlife out there. We have seen a fox, raccoons and deer.

Looking hard for one -- don't see it... perhaps it's been disrupted by the construction on the new entrance to DHS's parking lot?
