I proposed to my wife at our own personalized brick near the TTC. I will be sorry to see it go.

They agreed to display them until 2011. It’s 2019.

Um. no. It would have been far cheaper and easier for Disney to just pave regular walkways. They also more than fulfilled the original agreement.
That said, I feel like if you can verify your original brick purchase, the souvenir version should be complimentary.

Wait. Why won't they just give back the originals? Are they too damaged from years of being walked on?

I totally understand there was an agreement. It just seems foolish to me to have someone (park guests) cover the cost of a walkway that big, and Disney just say nah, We'll just PAY someone millions (I'm sure) to redo the whole thing.

It would just be far too much work to catalog, organize and keep track of all those bricks. Cheaper to just remake any bricks that are requested.

From another article, it says the original bricks were not designed to be removed and will be destroyed in the removal process.

You know what's funny?
Probably no guarantee they can pull out each brick in one piece, even if they tried.

Those and the LAL tiles were always planned to be temporary, no matter what literature or other marketing indicated.
As another money grab, I wonder if they will offer to sell them to the folks that paid for them the first time? $(original) +$ ( keep) plus shipping.
Edit: never mind. The likelihood of damaged bricks is too great. If I paid for one, though, I would only want the original that was actually in the park, not a reproduction. LAL tiles, though, those might be more easily salvaged.

Can't they redo the entrances without taking away these monuments? I understand the ones in Epcot might be more intrusive, but the walkway bricks don't get in the way. I don't have one myself but they are nice to see every trip.
@JenniferS, you should be criticizing Disney for their laziness to remove old bricks. For 8 years we were subject to a deteriorating guest experience.
