Walk Around The World Brick Question

Would this be too weird?

My wife and I purchased a Walk Around The World Brick in 2000, just before they quit selling them. It is located in a high traffic area at the entrance to the Ticket and Transportation Center.

When we visited our brick 2 weeks ago, it was looking pretty bad. You could read it ok, but, for a lack of a better word, the grout was filling with dirt and the whole brick was looking dirty.

Would it be weird if, on our next trip in May of 2009, if we took a small bottle of bleach and a toothbrush with us and cleaned it up?

I know it seems a little obsessive, but we would like to keep it clean so it lasts longer and can be seen in the years to come by our children, and maybe even our grandchildren, if we ever have any that is.

Has anyone ever done this or heard or seen anyone who has done this?

I wouldn't care. I would laugh because I would think it would be completely awesome, but I doubt someone would say, "Hey! You! Stop cleaning the ground!"

Not necessarily weird, but I would think that purposely dumping a noxious liquid on the ground in a theme park might get you a visit from Disney Security, if not the FBI or Homeland Security. And I'm sure the themeing at their resorts isn't anywhere near as fun.

Yeah, skip the bleach.

Just some water, a green 3M pad, and toothbrush will do the trick.

Then a coat of sealer, some carnuba wax, and buff to a high luster :)

Yes
The only thing weird would be that you actually bought one and DIDNT care for it after it was all dirty...

I would also skip the bleach. I would instead bring some soap, water, and a toothbrush. I do not think there is anything wierd about keeping your brick clean and would do the same if I was lucky enough to have one.

How much were these things? And did they tell you the location of it once it was etched and placed?

When we bought ours in 2000, they were around 85 Dollars. It took about 4 months from the time you purchased the brick until it was placed in the ground. They mailed you a map and description of the location of the brick.

I hear you can still purchase them, but I heard they are really expensive now and I'm not sure how to go about ordering one.

Someone from these boards got one a couple of years ago but I'm not sure who it was or where the post is that discussed it.

If you paid for it, I don't see anything wrong with you wanting it to look good. I would just be careful:

"Security, we have another cleaning agent incident at the entrance."
or....
"Mommy, why is that family staring at the brick with brushes in their hands?"

I don't think those bricks are guaranteed to last forever. That said, we bought ours in '96, and it's still going strong.

By all means, bring some mild liquid soap, a bottle of water, an old toothbrush, and scrub away! :)

We bought one in 96 also, but cannot seem to find it anymore! I contacted someone about a year ago and they gave me the brick number and location. When we went to Ohana's in June we spent about 45 minutes looking for it. The numbers came as close as 20 away from ours and then stopped. Talk about frustrating! :brick:

First try this email.
He usually takes care of our bricks when we need them cleaned.
Dean.P.Amodeo@disney.com

He takes care of the bricks.
I have not heard from him for a couple months though.

Go to City Hall at the MK. They can sometimes help if you get someone that knows about the program.

Also the phone number for the actual brick dept (no one is usually there but a voice mail can be left) 407-824-7890

Hope this helps.
they have always helped me before. Thats how I got my brick in 2006 and a friends in 2007

I have always wanted to know..

What if your brick is under the mats at bag check in MK? or under a trash can can you ask them to move the can off your $85 marker?

Our brick has lasted AMAZINGLY well, since it's located in the section trod regularly by crowds disembarking from the ferry across the lagoon. We just memorized the number, and look for it every time we're there.

I'm wondering if they still sell them as well?? I post above says you still can but I thought this was finished a while ago. If you can still get them why is this not public?
