What is your opinion on the Wal-Mart Company. They are one of the largest companies on the planet and are growing each day. with over 3000 stores world wide. Do you think they killed the mama-papa stores or they just got the oppurtities of a life time?

I woudn't touch our Wal-Mart with a 39 1/2 foot pole. It, and others in the suburbs I have been to with the exception of 2 of them, are run down and gross.

I think once you get away from the cities, though, they get a LOT nicer. I don't have a problem with the company as a whole.

Arrgh..there's a new SuperWalmart nearby that's scheduled to take up this TINY space. Traffic is going to be up - and there's one just 10 minutes away! ARRGH!! :brick: :hammer:

There was a huge controversy when Wal-Mart was going to be built here because they bought some piece of land right in the middle of our main avenue which is famous for its colonial houses from the beginning of last century, so a supermarket definietly didn´t fit in there. You know...everything is settled with $$ and they built it no matter what. We are now used to it... It kinda blends a little and you just stop paying attention to it.

As for cleanliness, it is very clean and there are a lot of "deli" products that you don´t find in other supermarkets here. It´s the cheapest one for certain things and the most expensive for others.

When I lived in Orlando I always shopped at the Super Walmart in Kissimmee because there was everything there, and it was cheaper than any other place.

Wal Mart is one of the best places I've ever shopped at. They opened the first one out here on Long Island a few months ago. Prior to that, I've been to a few in florida, pennsylvania, and upstate new york. Prices are unbeatable, very clean, helpful staff (i've seen people on rollerblades that work there....its that big). Usually, they build on cheap land so that the county doesn't care that much about it. Every one is different though.

According to Dave Barry, the lead communications officer of the FAA is located on the top of a Wal*Mart in Kansas somewhere muttering to god on a two-way radio........

Our Super Walmart in Metrowest is very nice and clean. I have heard that some Walmarts are run down but I haven't been to any yet. I was born in Springdale, Arkansas which is the town over from Bentonville. So of course I am going to be pro Wal-mart. The money my dad made off them marketing products has made us to live comfortablely :D . Now saying that I'd rather shop at Target LOL.

I don't like our Wal-Marts here, they are scuzzy and I an not particulary fond of stores that don't require shirt and shoes to shop. I am being so serious!

I fell in love with the SuperTarget' in Orlando but alas there is not one in my home town so I have to settle for just a regular old Target'. It's still my favorite store though, I never leave empty handed. :D

Gotta love Wal Mart....

All they got down here is Super Wal-Mart's, which is a good thing, they are all very clean, and I spend a lot of time in them, do all the shopping in there...

But, their's nothing like shopping at a nice small, cozy New Hampshire Wal Mart in a snow storm...

We have a SuperWalmart about 1/2 mile from my house. It's clean and close. I moved here from Pennsylvania and in both places the Walmarts have driven Kmart right out of the area. I still like Target but there isn't one as close.

I don't like Wal-Mart...I like Target, or Costcos.

The isles (at Wal-Mart) are cramped, there is stuff all over the place and Sams Club is just a Wal-Mart you pay to get into!

I agree. Only under extreme circumstances will I go to a Walmart. The one by my house is a complete dump! Stuff's everywhere including the floor. What also annoy's me is seeing stock all over the floor. When it comes to buying the necessities, i'll head on over to Target. :)

living in a very rural area, Wal-Mart is my county's hangout spot...you see EVERYONE there! which is why it takes at least 2 hours to get out of the store, no matter how much you went after! i like it fine....maybe because i have no other choice....but they do have nearly everything i'd want. when we had a regular Wal-Mart, it was good (for when i was young) but then we matured to a Super Wal-Mart i'd say about 6 or 7 years ago (? not sure...it's been a long while) but it's great...i certainly can't complain! but if i had a choice, i'd much rather have a Target (the nearest one to me is about 40 min. away)

Well I AM an employee at Target...management, in fact. :)

There are a lot of differences, and a lot of the policies we make are solely aimed at NOT being like wal-mart. i.e. stock on the floor, cleanliness, etc.

I can see wal-mart from my window outside my apartment, and i could walk there in 5 minutes, but I'd rather drive to Target any day.

I'm privy to a lot of information, some of which I can't really discuss, but let's just say that in certain places, wal-mart isn't really well run and does what it has to to make a buck.

You ask me, I'd rather pay (a very little) more to get the cleanliness Target offers.

Then again....I am a little biased :)

I grew up going to Wal-Mart, so I am a little biased towards though. It's fun with the SuperWal-Mart at 3 in the morning though because all my friends go there and we play Hide-n-Seek.

:D
