Wait Times

Last weekend, I was at Magic Kingdom and noticed something. Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise had a 70 minute wait. Pirates had a 60 minute wait. I have never seen the waits gone above 30 minutes for either of these rides (besides JC which never really exceeded 45 minutes). Is this all because of the FastPass+? It is definitely an awful system then if it is causing 70 minute waits on omnimovers and other high capacity rides like Pirates.

Possibly, but MK is also just plain crowded on weekends. I have seen it get up that high prior to FP+ on weekends.

Jungle Cruise has had a fairly consistent posted wait time of 45-60 minutes during the day (noon to 4 ish) for the average crowd times for the last few years and then drops to nothing after 5pm. Actual wait times vary wildly unfortunately. I’ve seen it posted at 55 min and it was practically a walk on and posted at 30 min and I gave up after an hour.

Pirates ... is a problem child since they put the new boats in. The wait is probably accurate but more likely due to it going down a half a dozen times a day rather than the FPs.

Yes, it's because of FP+ -- Pirates and HM, in particular, have seen their waits double (or more!) since its introduction. (It only makes sense, since they had no FP before, and now their standby queue moves at half of its former pace to accommodate the new FP+ queue and riders.) The same thing has happened with Dinosaur in the Animal Kingdom.

The net result of FP+ has been that waits at headliners are down by an average of 5-10 minutes, and waits at non-headliners, especially those to which FP+ was added (rather than merely converted from legacy FP) have gone up.

Magic Kingdom is crazy busy. Period. All the time. And it's only going to get worse in the future. This is why MK has become an early morning or late night park for us on most days.
Agree completely. It would have to be something drastic, like a HUGE price increase, to ever see MK have less waits/people.

From the times before FP+, I remember the only reason I've never ridden Jungle Cruise until like 4 years ago was because of long wait times.

Haunted Mansion and Pirates though.. Yea, that is kind of odd. But it makes sense. I think they should re-work the system to the old style, but still using the cards. Have a scanner thing where the paper passes used to be, instead of reserving ahead of time, you walk right up to the attraction and scan the card on the mickey circle. Then it'll display the time you return to the ride. After that time, you can get another Fastpass.

It's not that difficult, Disney. Just keep the old tradition and just upgrade the actual system.

Fast Pass the solution to and the reason for long wait lines!

Its true people with fastpass have waited in the same line so for every fast pass person its like another person in line a head of you. Wait lines for rides have gone up because fast pass get a priority over standby because the essence of Fastpass is a place holder in a standby line so they don't have to wait and can move on the other things. Which mean people who decided to wait in stand by or just couldn't get fast pass have to wait longer. Personally the new fast pass plus stinks. Planning ride times 2 or even 3 month out is wrong. The point of being on "vacation" is to be random and have fun.

I would say WDW is pretty close to the tipping point of being too miserable/expensive for the masses

Personally I think Disney just keeping inching more and more over the edge of the too expensive cliff and is teetering on the edge. Just a little more and they will tip it right over. AS far as too miserable I think there fine. I think people are expecting perfection which doesn't exist and just like about every little thing.

I think that this will eventually happen because the parks aren't getting any larger, nor are they building new parks in the USA, but the population continues to grow.

Further, if they were to try to build a third resorts in, say, Texas, which would make the most sense, the environmentalists/anti-capitalists would go nuts, protest, and sue. Also, it'd cost them a ton more because there are all sorts of new regulations and hoops that they'd have to jump through.

What we'll invariably end up with is a very exclusive, population percentage-wise, family resort. The rest of us will hit Six Flags and the like.

WDW is on the edge of being out of my price range. I used to frequent it but over the last year or two I've noticed the dining going from "Ok, that was a bit more expensive but we're at WDW" to "Now I'm just feeling dumb paying for it." Everyone, obviously, has their own threshold for this but, if I return, I'll be dining offsite. Disney dining is both expensive and I have to plan for it MONTHS in advance. Their food, I think, is generally pretty good but it's not 4-5 star prices good.

I find that not only are the lines for rides like POC and HM longer but the inability to ride mulitple times is a big problem. The last time we were there (10/14), we rode the attractions we had Fastpasses for and maybe one of two others that were 20 minutes or less(Aladdin and Dumbo? Oh boy) but didn't even go on Jungle Cruise or Buzz because of the long lines. We used to go back to our favorite rides two or three times a night but not anymore.

They can keep raising the prices all they want to. It's obviously not affecting park attendance. Even with the price risings, their attendance is still growing! You think it's crowded now? Well.. If they take everyone's advice and lower park ticket prices, think how much MORE crowded it would be. Sometimes, business is just cruel on both sides of the problem. d:

I like this idea, just instead of walking across the park to get a FP, you should have an app, (like MDE) where you push the button to reserve a FP for a ride. But ONLY on the day you're at the park. No "tiers" for better rides, just each Magic Band is limited to one FP until you use it, like the old system. I would love it that way.

Completely agree with you on the dining. I've eaten at a lot (not all) of the restaurants on property and I have had some pretty good meals. I have never had a GREAT meal. I think WDW food is very overrated in terms of quality and even if it was as good as people say/think it still probably wouldn't be worth what they charge!

Anyone who's in the MK regularly can tell you that FP+ has made wait times much worse at Pirates and HM. The latter is my favorite attraction, and it's frustrating to see wait times routinely close to an hour during the middle of the day (EDIT: in formerly "slow" seasons) at a fast-loading Omnimover ride.
