Does anyone know if Voyage of The Little Mermaid at DHS will be closing when The Little Mermaid ride opens in MK? Just wondering, don't kill me.. :)

The Little Mermaid is one of Disney's most popular. If I had to guess, having it at 2 different parks isn't overdoing it therefore why close it?

Well the Studios should be updated often so I think it'd be nice to see an okay show be replaced by an even better more current one.

we dont have to worry about that i bet. If you're worrying about there being the same character in more than one park look at nemo :lookaroun

Can't see them closing it anytime soon. Park needs capacity.

Agreed. One's an attraction, the other a dedicated ride. I don't think there would be an overwhelming need to close the former, considering the number of people it pulls in...

I think we may see something replace VOTLM after the ride has opened at MK. Just a feeling/hunch. Theres been some rumblings about this around and about.

They have the Finding Nemo musical at DAK and the Finding Nemo ride at Epcot, so there's no reason to think that they couldn't keep Voyage of the Little Mermaid once the ride opens at MK.

And I agree with a poster above. DHS seriously needs some new shows...it's hopelessly trapped in the early '90s.

The same kinds of speculations were made when Lights, Motors, Action was opening. People thought that maybe they would close Indianna Jones, yet, here we are 5 years later, and both remain, although LMA, seems to be whithering.

I can't see VOTLM going anywhere anytime soon. I would propose Beauty & The Beast be replaced, but it's still pretty popular as well, so it's probably not going anywhere either. I think a show based on The Princess & The Frog movie would be a good one to put somewhere, in spite of the fact the movie wasn't the most popular. It just has several good musical numbers that would lend well to a show, I think.

Having the same characters in multiple park attractions is not a huge concern. Nemo has already been mentioned, but there was a time when Lion King had its own attraction in three separate parks (Festival of the Lion King, Circle of Life, Legend of the Lion King).

But the difference in my mind, with both Lion King and Nemo, is that each attraction was fundamentally different. They both had attractions that were essentially retellings of the story (Nemo Musical and Legend of the Lion King), but the other attractions just utilize the characters to showcase something else.

Yes, the Nemo ride very loosely hits some of the scenes from the movie, but there's little overlap with what appears in the Musical. It's more interested in showing you environments. FOTLK has the songs, but is kind of a circus-type show, and Circle of Life is just the characters and has nothing to do with the Lion King story.

However, Voyage of the Little Mermaid and the Little Mermaid ride coming to Fantasyland both seem to me like they will cover a lot of the same territory. They are both essentially retellings of the Mermaid story. For this reason, I expect that they will replace VOTLM with something else, once the Mermaid ride is up and running (though I have no official information to support this).

Swapping in a new show seems like a logical candidate. Compared to attractions, shows are cheap. It would be fun to speculate on what property they will use to replace it. Princess and the Frog was forgettable, Tangled looks even more so. They could do another Pixar thing, since it's right next door to Pixar Place, but in terms of stage shows, Toy Story is the only movie that really seems like a good fit, and they already have a Toy Story attraction.

I would love to see them use the space for a fantasyland-type dark ride, which would be reasonably cheap, and so much more interesting than a stage show. But this is wishful thinking.

Even if they are based on the same movie they are far from being similar so I don't think the opening of TLM on Fantasy Forest won't affect that show in any way.
