Vote for your favorite!

Voting ends on Monday, Jan. 24th, at midnight EST. (I'll be in Orlando by then!)

And do look at the originals, the details get lost when they shrink!

Winner gets to choose the next topic AND style of contest. See if that drums up some entries.

Joe

Nice work everyone! I was impressed by these!

I may actually start to jump back in on these soon if I get the feeling and the topic is right.

You voted for yourself? uuhhhhh.

Now I know why sometimes I don't get any votes. I'm voting for the wrong person.

Is there a problem with me voting for myself? Is there a rule against it? I honestly want to know for future reference.

My theory is, if you honestly enjoy the look of your own wallpaper the most, who is to fault you for choosing it at the top? If you personally don't think your wallpaper is the best, why even submit it in a competition at all? You gotta be confident in your own abilities. That said, voting for yourself merely to boost your own tally, when you personally believe there are other wallpapers that are better, might not be the best course. But if you honestly feel your wallpaper is the best, take a little pride in it! If that means voting for yourself, so be it.

Just my view. And I'll say for the record that I haven't voted for myself in a long while. lol

But when I did vote for myself, in ages past, it was because the wallpaper touched me in a way that no other wallpaper did. The personal-ness of it appealed to my specific tastes. As such, I thought it was the best. Don't vote for other wallpapers if they aren't the best in your opinion, for the sheer sake of not voting for yourself. That's cheap.

My opinion. Take it with a grain of Salzburg salt. ;)

Thanks for the advice. As far as I'm concerned, I did the right thing by voting for myself. If I can't believe in me, who can? And since I'm proud of what I did (as well as those I have done in the past), I think I may participate in these contests more often. I am in awe of what you people have done, and I feel it is my turn to try.

Thanks, SirNim. You have lifted my self esteem.

No problem. I was kidding around. I actually voted for you. I agree with SirNim. If you think yours is the best then vote for it. But be honest with yourself, if someone submits something you think is better then vote for that. That's the only way to preserve the integrity of the contest.

I will be honest.

I voted for mine as the best wallpaper. I would've voted for Imagineer99 as the best work of art. I wouldn't want to clutter up Imagineer99's work with the mass amount of icons I have on my desktop. I feel mine is usable as an everyday wallpaper.

Therein lies another controversy in these contests: Whether entries should be judged as wallpapers (usefulness for computers) or as works of art. I don't know if we've ever settled that debate.

Regardless, your decision is fine, Matt. :)

Oh Lord how I agree with that. Some of the wallpapers I've seen win would not make a good desktop background. Maybe we should make a "work of art" contest and keep it separate from the "wallpaper" contest.

wow...that's quite a compliment (considering I put that baby together in 30 minutes.... :lookaroun )

I must confess, I have voted for myself twice. (however, that's because I thought it was the best.) Usually, my vote goes to SirNim by default.

I didn't mean to sound harsh, Matt. What SirNim stated is how most feel, myself included. If you think yours is best, then by all means, give yourself that vote. If you're doing it just to give yourself the edge to win the voting (meaningless by the way) then I think that's wrong.

As far as the "Wallpapers or Works of Art" debate is concerned, there really is no argument against "Works of Art" as background images. Many people do NOT have icons on their desktop screen. Personally, I keep all of my Icons in the Quick Launch toolbar at the bottom of the screen on my PC, and I do the same on my MAC. Therefore, works of art are the best Wallpapers IMO. (also the reason I don't leave space for icons in any of my wallpapers)

But, hey, there isn't going to be a rule in these contests about making room for icons, but if anyone hates the works of art because they think they don't fit, then don't vote for 'em. Simple as that.

The poll was supposed to automatically close at midnight on the 25th... it didn't listen too well. :)

Anyway, the winner by a landslide (although all the entries were AWESOME) is Imagineer99... PM me with a topic and a style of contest, and I'll get it posted post-haste (pun intended).

Congrats to all for a job well done, and congrats to I-99!
