Hi All
I'm new to this forum so it's great to be here and I'm already asking questions lol. My daughter and I are planning a holiday in WDW in November 2007 ( I have to save) probably last week in Nov what's the weather like then ? We like the look of the Port Orleans French Quarter Hotel any thoughts ?

Many Thanks

Welcome to the boards. My family and I are planning our next trip for the last weekend in November 2007, too.

MyDH and I stayed at Riverside, never Port Orleans side. But, we looked around the Port Orleans side and it was wonderful and everyone says they have the best pool for the kids with a cool slide. Maybe someone can elaborate on that.

The weather is hit and miss in November. I would pack shorts, jeans and a few sweathshirts. It can get quite chilly at nights.

Hope this helps

Hi and welcome!
We've never sayed at POFQ, but back in the day when pool-hopping was alowed, our kids did use the pool there and loved it. It's a very nice resort, and many people here have good things to say about it (try doing a search here).
The weather in November can be quite changable, so you'll need to be prepared for cool weather. Pack jeans and a sweatshirt besides shorts and tees and you should be fine. Have a great trip!

We stayed at the French Quarter in 1997. It was our first Disney resort. We loved it. It is smaller than most other resorts and had an intimate feel. It got us hooked, lol.

RE: Hurricanes:

Should you be worried? No. Should you be prepared? Yes. Bring a flashlight with you, snacks, and activities that can amuse you should the power go out. Disney will take care of the rest.

Having said that, with 3 hurricanes in a row, Disney held up quite well. The buildings are well above the standard code for hurricanes. If a hurricane came you can look at it two ways: you could freak out and/or lament the loss of a day at the parks, or you could consider it an adventure, a camp out for a few hours.

When life gives you lemons, make margharitas (sp?):slurp:

I'll take a stab at a few of these questions.

POFQ. IMHO it is the best of the moderates. For the price it is one of the best resorts on property. Small very charming feel, great atmosphere and water transportation to DTD.

Weather in November. It will be starting to cool off about this time but the temperature can very quite drastically from day to day or even day to night. Generally it will be shorts and t-shirt weather during the day and cooling off to pants and possibly light jacket weather at night especially if it is windy and you are near a large body of water like at World Showcase or DTD.

Hurricanes. Don't worry about them but prepare for them. At most you will loose a day at the parks. Check the forecast the night before you leave and unless a Cat 5 is making a bee line for central Florida you will have nothing to worry about. Statistically WDW should be hurricane free for quite some time.

Hey welcome to the boards.

Are ya from the UK by any chance seeing as your flying into Sanford??

To my knowledge there isnt a shuttle transfer from Sanford to WDW but i could be wrong as we usually hire a car, maybe one of the more informed among us can confirm or deny this.

As far as Hurricanes go, treat it as an adventure, you may lose a day in the park but as a 'bad weather junkie' it can be a lot of fun, dont worry about them and just enjoy everything florida has to offer lol.

If your coming earlier than November i would say that the weather is pleasently warm but not unbearable hot...........do i make any sense to anybody????? :hammer:

looks like it will be october 13th and yes i'm from the UK will be flying in to Sanford and my travel company has an arrangement with Mears to do transfers.
I've got the chance of a Lagoon room at french quarter and am wondering if it's worth it and am i better off using that money for a character breakfast instead ?

I'm excited but a bit scared as this is the first time i've travelled without my husband and my daughter doesn't like flying, but she says the need to visit WDW is greater than her fear of flying lol

A lagoon room is nice, but not really worth the price. The "lagoon" is the canal from POR to DTD. Beyond that is a golf course and the standard Florida pines and scrub bushes. A garden view is much better. POFQ has some of the most beautiful fountains and plants. POFQ is a very pretty resort, try to avoid a parking lot view.

POFQ has a very intimate feel to it, cozy and charming at the same time. For some reason, it never felt crowded to me (of course, we went there after 5 days at Pop Century so anything would have seemed less crowded after Pop  ).

Anyway, the pool at POFQ is really cool! My kids loved the sea serpent motif. The body and tail go throughout the entire pool area and water slide is the serpent's tongue! Take the online tour of it at Disney Online and you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Oh, and if you do wind up staying there, take time to read the street signs - very witty puns throughout!
