We are headed out for our annual WDW Christmas trip on Friday. We have been thinking about DVC for about the past 5 years and every trip we say we are going to do the tour but just haven't. I've been reading with some interest about AKL still having rooms. Not really interested in BLT as we spend very little time at the MK anyway. Does anyone know the DVC going rate per point at AKL? I've been checking resell boards but if the rate is close I might as well go through DVC and get the full time, right? Thanks in advance.

You'll get the same number of years no matter if you purchase direct or resale. The big advantage of purchasing direct is the speed of being in the system, enabling you to make a reservation, as well as being able to finance through Disney.

I believe this (from dvcnews.com) is the current promotion from Disney for AKV. I know we got something from our guide saying the rates would change in the beginning of the new year. The other good thing about buying from Disney is their promotional offers like devloper points.:)

$104 base price less $6.25 promotional discount; 100-point purchase

$104 base price less $6.25 promotional discount; matching set of Developer's Points to be used at Saratoga Springs or for Interval International exchange by October 3, 2009; 160-point minimum purchase; first points available in 2008 Use Year but cannot be used until after 5/1/09 due to Kidani Village construction

Special Offer: $104 base price; 160 - 219 points; $1000 Gift Card; complimentary 3-night stay in One Bedroom villa at any resort (subject to availability) by October 3, 2009.

Special Offer: $104 base price; 220+ points; $1000 Gift Card; complimentary 5-night stay in One Bedroom villa at any resort (subject to availability) by October 3, 2009.

Thanks for all the great info. Still trying to decide the best route. I think I have my husband convinced this is something we need to do since we travel to WDW at least once a year sometimes twice. He just can't see the forest for the trees yet. I appreciate the help.

No problem Sharon. I talked to my hubbie about it for years. A year ago September, we got back from our free dining trip, and out of the blue he said - I think we need to buy into DVC.:D:sohappy:

After that trip he was really thinking about how much we go, and how he'd really like to stay somewhere nicer every time.

So I was beyond excited. At the time they were offering developer points with a referral from a current DVC member, so a very nice someone from this board gave me her name, and we did the entire thing by phone and the mail.

We have loved it so far!:) I hope you get your Christmas wish!

I still can't believe we did it but 2 years ago we took the plunge. We would stop at a DVC stand talk for a while but never really thought about it. Well 2 years ago we came back from our annual trip and I started planning our next one. The girls were getting too old for one room. We figured two rooms. I ran the number, wow, double the price for rooms, da. We only wanted to stay on property. Too make a long story short I check out DVC. The numbers worked. Same budget (We did have the cash) but we were now staying at Boardwalk with a bedroom, living room, kitchen and one heck of a large bath. I did buy re-sale because I wanted the Boardwalk for a home resort. The perks did push my wife over the fence. She loves to get a discount. We eat at Swan and Dolphin because of the better discounts for dining. The numbers worked for us. Why didn't we do it the first time we went. We never walked into a DVC unit till the first time.

We sooo want one. What is the best value for the buck right now to choose as a home resort? We love WL and I am intrigued at BLT, since we are big MK people.

We just bought in to AKL a week ago. Not sure what the dollar per point was but Tammy seems about right. The incentives we got were $6.25 per point towards the down payment and a matching point program that has to be used @ Saratoga Springs by 10/03/2009. The only difference we could see was the down money @ BLT is only $5 per point but the maintenance fees were cheaper and the deed lasts until 2060 instead of 2057 like at AKL. My wife felt the AKL homes were more welcoming and comfortable than BLT. She described the rooms at BLT as feeling "sterile".
