no idea for sure, but maybe virgin's website has a list of amenities that you can find on each flight?

For instance, I found this list...

We offer an unbeatable selection of games on all our flights to and from London Heathrow. Try and beat Mario and his friends with a choice of up to 35 games - guaranteed to keep kids of all ages amused! Check your Entertainment Guide once onboard to find out which games are available on your flight.

Here is a taster of our current onboard selection:

Battlemail Kung-Fu: Top class Kung-Fu action in this groovy multi-player game designed exclusively for Virgin.

Backgammon: One of the world's oldest dice games.

Blackjack: Gamble in our virtual onboard casino!

Cave Crunch: Arcade action in this maze-based game. Guide the caveman and make sure he eats everything!

Hangman: Classic word guessing game.

Head-to-Head chess: The ultimate onboard chess challenge. You have the chance to match your wits either with the computer or any other passenger on the plane!

Minigolf: Test your skills on the fairways.

Solitaire: Stimulate the old grey matter.

Trivia Challenge: Compete to become the onboard trivia champion.

Dr Mario: The nasty viruses have returned and Dr Mario is ready to eliminate them.

F-Zero: Soar above 26th century cities avoiding obstacles and traps in the most brutal Grand Prix race ever devised.

Super Mario World: needs your help to complete his most challenging mission yet, to rescue the beautiful Princess

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Try to win a million (no coughing allowed) You have 15 questions to reach the million.

You can't say for sure which aircraft they will supply on the day. I've made a lot of trips on Virgin to Boston, sometimes it's had the the Nintendo, sometimes not.

Drop Virgin an email and see what they have to say.

Virgin i believe have recently brought in a new PTV (Personal TV) system and i dont think this one has the nintendo in it. Believe that was the older system with the nintendos, although i could be mistaken. Just had a quick look at the Thomas Cook Signature brochure and on its 2 page Virgin section has no mention of the nintendos.

Not being a Virgin flyer not all together sure what the story was with flights from Gatwick. Virgin use some hired 747s on routes from Manchester to Orlando and i think they sometimes use them from Gatwick although these all have the PTV system although i dont know if its the new or old one.

You could try the wesbite but im not sure that they have the nintendo now, most suppose its not going to be used much now with folk having gameboys PSPs nd such like.

We went with Virgin three years ago from Gatwick and they did not have the Nintendo's then (my son was quite dissappointed!) but they did have Kid Paks which had crayons, colouring, sweets, games, etc in it. Each seat also had its own tv in the headrest in front. Hope this helps.

I think it also depends on what plane you have we had "Pretty Woman" both ways. I believe some of them do have the Nintendo's on them.

Last time I went with Virgin from Gatwick, they didn't.

Orlando seems to get the older planes (still 747-400's though). All the new gadgets go to NYC, and the Far East flights first. The built-in Nintendo is basically a SNES, so is quite old now.

Saying that, Premium Economy and Upper Class have better entertainment systems, so they might have it (if you have upgraded of course ;) The in-flight entertainment brochure lists all classes so you can see what you are missing!)

I have been twice with Virgin from Gatwick, and neither time had the Nintendo system. Both times were 747-400 aircraft. My understanding is that certain aircraft cover certain routes, and the aircraft that do the LGW-MCO route are not the ones with this kind of entertainment system. I can't comment on Virgin's aircraft allocation policy, but it seems to me that certain routes like the LGW-MCO will always have a guaranteed demand, whereas with the schedule routes (like NYC) there is much more price-dependant competition and it pays to have any edge you can on these routes; therefore it make sense to put the aircraft with the better facilities on these routes.

Heading for the great escape.
Ive only ever once flown ann a Virfgin Atlanticflight with games. It was my understanding that it was the routes to the far East andAfrica that normaly had them.

What I like about Virgin is the gatwick evening and Downtown Disney check ins, and that you can prebook your seat on line for both trips.

The Virgin Atlantic website also lists movies for that month. :)

On the LGW-MCO flights the chances are that the aircraft will be a 747-443. These aircraft were built by Boeing for Alitalia. The order was later cancelled by them, and Virgin snapped them up dirt cheap. These aircraft are fitted with in-flight entertainment system called Nova. Nova does not feature Nintendo games.

There is a small chance that you will get one other 747-4Q8 that operates from LGW which has a system called Oddessy.... if you are lucky, you may get this aircraft. This does feature Nintendo games.

Unless there is an operational issue and a LHR plane has to be used, this is how it is I'm afraid.

Please feel free to ask anymore questions or PM me.

We flew Virgin from Gatwick April 2003 and there was no Nintendo either.
Somewhere in the Virgin brochure there is a "disclaimer" stating something along the lines of they cannot guarantee that a particular plane or route will have all the in flight services listed.
You could always colour the pretty pictures in the kids pack for the 9 hour flight instead

This came into play when a Boston flight of mine was delayed because the plane broke. Rather than keep us waiting longer they borrowed another airline's plane and used that. No toys at all on it.

We always fly with Virgin and never had the Nintendo games, but I am quite happy to sit there goggle eyed at the films while sipping the free booze (with plenty of water of course!).
