News Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

I’d like to see Disney do something on the scale of Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth and Pirates again…. That’s what is missing.

I can get coasters in my home state. I can’t get true Disney e-ticket dark rides anywhere else.

What I hope for is two major E-ticket rides: an immersive dark ride on the scale of Pirates, Mansion, or Rise and a high-thrill coaster—with a thrill level that compares to or exceeds RnRC or Everest.

Magic Kingdom is perceived by much of the public as Orlando’s “kiddy” or “family” park—certainly more-so than Universal’s parks and also among the other three Disney parks.

If Disney wants to remain competitive, a high-thrill (and highly themed) coaster is exactly what is needed to keep Magic Kingdom relevant for teens and young adults. TRON was a good start, but more is needed.

Then again, I know they’ve budgeted for this, but I also get the vibe they haven’t fully determined what the attractions themselves will be. That coaster art could very well be a placeholder.

Totally agree and that's a great way to look at it as I live near Cedar Point and I can't see them ever building anything close to a Disney level dark ride.

I'm really hoping that something along those lines will be the other main attraction for the land. Innovative new dark ride AND an amazing new coaster would be a great combo for the land IMO.

And it has the highest attendance of any theme park in the world.

Magic Kingdom really doesn’t need to be fixed or improved or made to stay “relevant” - it needs to be kept in great condition and plussed whenever possible.

That’s not to say a Villians land wouldn’t be fun…. But DHS seems like the best fit - plus they need a lot more and fast.

I hear you. I can take or leave Maleficent as the theme, but as a huge coaster nut I selfishly hope that Villains Land will have the most intense coaster we've ever seen at WDW.

Like, maybe not quite the same level as VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure, but something similar to that on a slightly smaller scale with added layers of more storytelling elements throughout and more indoor sections. Most likely would be another Vekoma custom build but would hope for a multi-launch coaster with 3 inversions. I don't know, a guy can dream, right?

Truthfully I'd be happy with ANY coaster addition to MK or any of the parks for that matter. I'm excited for the Door Coaster but am hoping for a Villains Land coaster with a bit more bite than a family suspended coaster.

Listen, I am ALL in for a coaster so long as it leans HARD on storytelling. A thorn coaster that has a narrow miss with Maleficient's dragon as its only big moment wouldn't do it for me. I'm talking multiple show scenes with AA's. I'm passionate about Villains so I neeeeeed this to be top notch.

Agreed, but these 2 additions turn MK into a 2 day park. It’s an interesting strategy that no one has mentioned. Maybe I’m wrong but it would make getting MK done in one day pretty challenging. Not everyone wants to speed race a park.

I don't feel like Cars Auto Parts Mountain really moves the needle like a Villains Land would....A fully complete and refreshed Tomorrowland with a couple new rides replacing Stitch and Monsters Inc... A new additional Destination restaurant, and completely refreshed plazas with water features and Sci-Fi Mid Century Futuristic architecture...like seriously immersive would be a WAY bigger draw...

I think MK as it exists right now is already a 2 day park.

It may not be for people who visit regularly and either know there are certain things they don't mind skipping, or know how to optimize their day with LL etc. to get everything, but for the average guest? I doubt they can ride every attraction and see every show in one day, or even really come close to it.

When I went to WDW for the first time in like a decade several years ago, we did 1.5+ days at the MK and still didn't ride everything. I'd be shocked if a first time visitor feels like they can do all of the MK in a day.

Agreed. For someone like myself who goes every year it’s a 1 day park. This addition could change my park visiting habits to include an additional day at MK.

I'm a huge advocate for Night on Bald Mountain being the setting of a coaster or highly immersive ROTR-level dark ride. There's potential there in it.

Maybe a hot take: but a Maleficent roller coaster is low hanging fruit. Villains land deserves better. Just my opinion.

I think this land will be safe choices. Maleficent roller coaster and Villains boat ride possibly using Shanghai Pirates. Probably not too far a concept from Villain mountain

What about a new ride system for the second ride. I know it's being rumored the new cars ride is a new ride system that is basically actual off-roading with essentially human sized remote control cars. Any possibly of a up and coming ride system for villains? Personally would love some type of boat dark ride hybrid, that's a little bit of rise and a little bit of Shanghai pirates

That's how I feel. I could drive to a Six Flags less than 30 minutes away if I wanted to ride big coasters. I can't ride Disney level E tickets at any other park, though -- even Universal has rarely (if ever) built anything on the level of Disney's greatest attractions.

Plus, Disney will never be competitive in that coaster market anyways. They'd have to build like a dozen to catch up, and by the time they did that they'd still be behind because places like Cedar Point would have built more.

Sure, but that's a different kind of coaster. Those aren't nearly as big/intense as something like Velocicoaster, which is what people (at least some people) are asking for.

RnR or Tron is the fastest (or i guess most thrilling) they should go, especially considering it's already a thrilling ride for kids based off of villains theming.

Even though villains is something that all ages (teens / adults / etc) want, they need it to appeal to the kids too.

I personally agree with you but I also never would have thought that anything as thrilling as Tron would ever happen in Magic Kingdom so I can’t 100% rule out an actual thrill coaster for Villain’s land.
