I am not a big animal kingdom fan however, I did really enjoy the show that the guys put on. The unique sound of the zen drum and the musical stylings of the group were always a reason for me to stop by.

My entire family will miss those guys. I hope they do something themselves in the future

Good luck to the Beatniks

You know, I've never actually sat/stood around and watched them play a full set. I guess I should soon. I've heard them in passing, and thought they were pretty good.

Are they the ones that play in area of Flame Tree BBQ? Because if that's them... I love them! They were quite good and entertaining!

Dang, I am so glad I made a point of seeing them again this visit. They have got to be my favorite street show in all of WDW. I streamed them live to my qik account today if you want to check out the recording. It's not that great because it was from my phone live, but kinda cool that I could do that at all. qik.com/fizbain32. So disapointed.

So I was asking if they had a CD and they said no. I found out about their last show when I did a google search tonight and found this

The jist of it is

A sad news for Disney's Animal Kingdom. The Village Beatniks (that play African music throughout the park) are leaving for good. Here's the news:

"At the Walt Disney World® Resort, we regularly evaluate our offerings and make appropriate adjustments based on creative and operational needs. To meet recent operational requirements at the Park, performances by the Village Beatniks will be discontinued at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, effective Sunday, September 26, 2010. The Village Beatniks final performances will be on Saturday, September 25, 2010.

Our sincerest thanks to the Village Beatniks for enhancing the Guest experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom since 1998."

I hope the best for the group, and I also hope we'll see a new group coming as soon as possible, since we all know that the current state of Disney's Animal Kingdom is not great.

It will be a loss to the park. They were great with kids and so my daughter absolutely loved to stop and watch them and get involved.

Did they ever replace Smear Splat & Dip?

I really did enjoy listening to them at the park. It doesn't seem as if Animal Kingdom offers much in the entertainment department besides the parade and the theater shows. Sad to see them go.

Sorry for bumping the thread but I just sent the following email after finding the guest communication address. Again, please forgive the bumpage!

I am writing to express my EXTREME displeasure at the cancellation of the performing group, "The Village Beatnicks." My family and I are DVC members and annual pass holders and are frequent visitors to Walt Disney World. This group was one of the things that I love the most about the Animal Kingdom. When entering the park, I would pick up a times guide and find the Beatnicks and make sure that we saw at least 2 of their performances. After the show, the guys would always stick around and talk with my children and me; they are exemplary cast members and extremely talented as well. If the decision to cancel their performances remains, then the Animal Kingdom will fall off of our priority list. The park is already weak on things to do, and the general poor state of maintenance (Expedition Everest needs A LOT of attention; especially that big hairy statue at the end) make it quite "missable." We have been wanting to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at that "other park" in town but have not wanted to waste Disney days to go there but taking away one of the things that we loved the most about the Animal Kingdom, we are strongly considering that possibility.

Thank you for your attention.

You know what, maybe I will join you in sending a mail. We discovered these guys in 2007 and made a point of seeing them each visit. We always found them to be so much fun. Got more than one picture of one of us playing tambourine for the final tune
