Videotaping the rides

I have a couple questions regarding using my newly purchased camcorder at WDW.

On which rides is videotaping prohibited? I know I've seen several people videotaping on different rides, but of course, the fact that they are doing it doesn't necessarily mean that it's allowed. Can I videotape Ellen's Energy Adventure? Indiana Jones? Splash Mountain? PoTC? Small World? I'm not gonna name every single ride, but I was just wondering what the criteria is for whether or not to allow videotaping. Is it because some attractions may contain some kind of copyrighted material which would prohibit videotaping, such as rides with a film element to them?

And speaking of Splash Mountain up there, there is a good chance my video camera would get a little wet. Are many or most video cameras water resistant enough that it wouldn't hurt to get a little water splashed on them? Or am I better off shutting 'er off and covering it up before we take the big drop?

On one foggy morning before hurricane charlie, I did exactly what you suggested albeit in an empty log, with no other guests around. I held it way above my head. It stayed very dry.

I would not recommend you try it.

Dh taped the whole ride in September and it was hot and the water was really going. He did get the camera a little wet, not that bad though. It was funny because you can hear me say you are gonna get the camera wet and he keeps sayin naa, I won't and when we were making the loop in front of the drop the logs drowns us and of course I said I told you so! :ROFLOL:That was the only place it got wet though and it didn't hurt it. (Hang on to it on the drop though but the water isn't near as bad there as it is when you pass the logs dropping.)
He also taped PoTC, EE, RnRC

btw .. on splash mointain DL my brand new HD cam nearly got fried .. although I had in in a raincover (selfmade plastic bad thingy) .. so you better not risk you camera .. leave the stunts to the "professionals" .. (err .. even those fail from time to time :lookaroun)

i've recorded video on alot of the rides that allow it...POTC was too dark for my camera though

i recorded splash and my camera didnt get wet...probably just luck though

It seems to me the rides that don't allow video taping are generally the ones that rely on a movie being projected as part of the ride... like Soarin' or the Star Wars ride... I always figured it was something to do with the copyright of the movie they were showing as I never recalled anyone caring if you taped the rides that moved alot and would be more likely to see your camcorder go flying off into the wild blue yonder... I've even watched people tape while riding roller coaster though I'm pretty sure the quality ended up horrible with all the shaking.

At WDW, you can pretty much videotape nearly everything. If an attraction does not allow videotaping or photography, the CMs will make a very clear announcement saying so. I know that the CMs will make several clear announcements in Stitch's Great Escape saying that no photography or videotaping is allowed. It's also not a good idea to use flash photography or external video lighting in dark rides like POTC, HM, or Space Mountain. You'll likely blind and aggrivate other guests.

Plus, alot of effects simply will not show up under a flash or external lighting!
