I believe there's a list floating around of attractions that you cannot record for a number of reasons. What it truly comes down to is being respectful for others around you. The external video lighting, light coming off the screen, etc is VERY distracting and can ruin the magic for everyone around you.

I've had little issue with taping most attractions. As long as you're not using external lighting and it's not a safety hazard you're good.
Don't bother being the clever guy who turns on his camera just before launch on RnR. It's dark, noisy, and now that I think of it...unsafe. :lookaroun

video generally doesn't come out best in dark rides so unless you just want a bunch of audio with a black screen I would skip the darker rides. Some rides are quite nice to tape and go back and watch later. Ones like the Great Movie Ride turn out pretty well.
But also don't forget to just sit back and enjoy yourself! Don't spend too much time behind the lense or you're bound to miss out on some fun.

This is great advice! I tend to get very caught up in taking photos or video...it's important to enjoy your experience while you're there rather than worry about how you'll remember it when it's over.
I find I have to leave the camera behind at the hotel room some days to accomplish that.

Completely understood.
Obviously trying to videotape on rides like RNRC & Space Mountain are pretty difficult and is highly discouraged. Which isnt to say I havent done it.
Just work on your camera work, keeping the camera steady, white balance... etc....

Depends on your manual settings and software
All in all, remember where there is a ban, most of the time it is for good reason. Avoid LCD screens on dark rides and yes, think of others. It may be fun taking the camera on the ToT, RnRC, Everest or even Space Mountain, but a lens cap can take an eye out at 28mph, let alone being hit by a full camera at 60mph.
I wouldn't use the camera to strike people then.. Even if they are in the way or ramming you with chairs etc... :ROFLOL:
Last year was the first time I took over camera duty from my father thanks to my tiny, beautiful new camera (now he gets to watch everything without lugging a huge camera around). Personally I like to capture moments with the family in them, so as soon as people stop to take photos I'm on the scene filming everyone being filmed (or something to that effect).
I understand that everywhere you shouldn't film it is mentioned during the queue's etc..
Oh and also unless it is water proof avoid water, such as Kali River Rapids. That concerned a few people when I was heading through there with a camera.. :lol:

Basically everything is already on You-Tube, so why tape the rides? If you have kids taping their reaction to the parades would be nice but just enjoy the rides.

I have video taped most of the dark rides in years past with mediocre results for the most part. Like another poster said, you miss a lot of the fun when you’re busy behind the lens. I have found great video online through mousebits that are better quality and have better editing than my stuff. My advice is to enjoy the rides and save the video for parades & family.

Photos and video are for the sake of recording personal experiences. There are plenty of photos of the Castle everywhere, but everyone wants to take their own.

Sorry bout your bandwidth problems, high speed internet, no problems over here!
Nah - I meant YouTubes video bandwidth quality. Even the newer MP4 setting is like VHS.

i would agree with those who say that most of the stuff you would end up recording can be found on the internet.
it really DOES decrease your enjoyment of a ride to videotape. save the video for family moments and just walking around in the park.
plus if you have to use the video monitor on your camcorder and i am sitting behind you, i'll make a mad face.

The first year we went to WDW, I videoed EVERYTHING. I couldn't tell you how much I missed because of having to look through a small view lens. (didn't have the pop out screen yet). Now we use a tripod & have the flip out screen. We took a lot of pics, but in reality, we only look at them when we're looking for something specific. (& on the rare occasion we can convince family to go)

My last trip was the first time I used a video recorder. I got a tiny FLip HD cam. It was so small that it was easy to bring on most rides and the quality was amazing! I got back and think about it and I realized I did miss a lot because I was looking at a screen or looking at everything through my camera....lol
For the dark rides, the camera just has the screen on the back, so I stuck a post it note to cover the screen so it didn't bother anyone.

Like others have said, you honestly will miss alot of all you are doing is recording. I went picture crazy for one year and felt like i missed quite a bit...and thats just with a camera.
