Never needed to ask this before but my daughter is bringing the video recorder. She said the little cards cost a ton so she thought she might just download them to a disc each day and then clean it up for another day. Is there a place and if so is it in the kodak centers or do they still have them? Its been 3 years since we went last and do not remember this and I cannot find anything on it. if so anyone done it and the charge is ?? for each disc and can you load it again on the same disc? I know lots of stupid questions but if someone doesn't ask how will we know right?

Depending on what type of camera you have, I would suggest bringing a laptop computer with you and doing it when you get back to your room. Thats normally what we do. You don't even have to make the disks right away. Although it might be good to do it so you can back them up. Also SD cards are not that expensive. could probably get an 8GB for around 30 bucks. I recorded all of FotLK, Nemo, and numerous other shows on an 8GB card and no problems. My camera actually has a slot for two SD cards because it takes pictures and videos.

Assuming you mean a disk you can view on your computer or laptop rather than your TV, you could just bring a USB for the camera/camcorder and if you have a laptop load them onto there every night into their appropriate disks/folder/usb sticks/whatever. I'm pretty sure this is much easier and completely free!

The photo shops on property sell memory cards, so in that respect they can be "expensive," but just how much video (and at what resolution/file size) is she planning on recording? As someone suggested above, the price of memory cards have dropped significantly.

If you give us the camera make/model, we could make some reasonable suggestions based on how much recording time x-number of GB will provide, at the highest resolution, and what minimum speed rating you need for your memory cards to be, etc.

If you're really looking to pinch pennies, you could (1) buy what you think will be more than enough memory cards, and then return the ones that you don't use, or (2) buy high capacity cards, use them, transfer to computer when you get home, and then return them (after formatting them, of course). Obviously, both of these depend on your retailer's return policy and subject to any limitations they might have.

For the hardcore photographer/videographer, there are portable devices out there about the size of a first generation iPod that allow you to plug in a memory card, and the device will copy the data into its internal memory, and then you can wipe the memory card clean. Of course, those devices will cost you more than a few new memory cards. Even the iPad has a SD card reader that allows you to copy photos to your iPad directly from the memory card.

If by little cards you mean micro SD cards then the best thing to do is just get a 32gig card for $32 from a website like Newegg, buy more then one if you really need it, it is not possible to transfer the pictures directly to the ipad

Cost is the issue right now we go in 18 days and his paycheck hits after they are there and on the last day. Pepsi prorated the end of the year checks somehow and they have had nothing coming in till then.. Well just take the computer and leave her IPAD at home.. Thanks but It will be good to know this next time.Or she could just go to the Kodak center and do the disc thing when its full..

If you have transportation, and can check in advance, WalMart by DTD has good photoservice spot. We have used them in the past but we don't have card based camcorder, so call first.

No no rental car.. Its the best thing to just take the computer and then we cn check pictures and retake at places if need be on our second day at each park. We do all parks 2 times except Epcot only one long day 9am-12am.. Our first day is without tickets as no free dining on that day so we stay at POP hopefully not be moved out of that room. Going to DTD first arrival day then on to the parks Sat. She will just download and clean it off each day. Thanks. i didn't think the 12.00 for the disk was too bad if she decides too.

First, standard SD cards might be considered to by "tiny" - relatively speaking - by non photographers. To the best of my knowledge, there are no Sony "Handycam" series cameras that record directly to the Micro SD format. Micro SD is more common for much smaller devices, such as phones, or the old school "Palm Pilot" style PDAs. So, the OP's camera most likely uses standard SD/SDHC cards.

Second, in the off chance that a Micro SD card is used, there are adapters that allow Micro SD cards to be inserted into the more standard SD card format, as shown below:

Third, yes, you can transfer pictures directly to iPad. You just need an iPad Camera Connection Kit. There are third party versions out there, but this is the one made by Apple, and costs $30:

The "kit" comes with 2 pieces, a SD card reader, and a USB adapter. An SD card plugs into the "reader," which plugs directly into the iPad, and looks like this:

The USB adapter allows USB devices (with some limitations) to plug directly into the iPad, and looks like this:

For the OP, your best (and safest) bet is to just get more memory cards, and return whatever you don't need after your trip. Also, if you have additional photo/video/technological questions, make sure that you're getting correct information from someone who understands the technology and hardware that's available on the market.

Isn't there a somewhere in the Magic Kingdom/DTD that will transfer pictures over to CD (it think it cost around$20) for you? I want to say I overheard a conversation with a cast member and another quest who ask this question.. Ok did some digging and found this on the wdwinfo site:

"The camera centers at the four Theme Parks are equipped with digital technology allowing guests to download their pictures from a digital media card onto a CD.

This is in response to the increasing popularity of digital cameras. PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THIS NEW SERVICE, FILM PROCESSING WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE AT THE THEME PARKS OR AT THE WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORTS."

Like I said not sure where the camera centers are located and I know thereis a fee. Also if you bring your charger with you they will allow to charge a camera/ipad/ipod phone ect.....

Yes I found that info on Intercot boards. Says 11.99 but we might go with the one of those things below for the IPad . Thanks so so much Timekeeper!!!

Sure thing. Just be sure to test it in advance for compatibility to make sure that it does what you want it to.

Edit: *Your original post seemed to focus on "videos" more than "photos." From Apple's website: "...the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4. "

Also, at $11.99 for a transfer to CD, you should note that $12 will get you more storage room by purchasing additional SD cards rather than downloading to CD. A CD holds less than 1 GB (700 MB), and even if they offer a DVD data disc at 4.7 GB instead of a CD, I just checked Amazon and $12 could get you an 8 GB memory card.

So, $12 will get you the same storage space as 2 data DVD discs, or 11 CDs.

I would - again - suggest just grabbing a couple extra memory cards
rather than having disc transfers made or having to bring an iPad and purchase additional accessories. Memory cards are cheap, durable, and small. Optical discs like CD/DVD can scratch or break, take up more room, may require multiple discs to make up for a single memory card, and might just be outright inconvenient.

The iPad is nice for immediate editing/sharing of photos and video, but if you can wait, it might be better to avoid traveling with more expensive computer equipment (from one of your posts above it seemed like you preferred not to travel with your iPad).

Hope this helps :)

No problem. Amazon is pretty quick (especially when orders are sold by and fulfilled by Amazon versus third parties). And Best Buy's website can tell you if a product is available in-store. For example, the camera kit is available in each of the Orlando store locations.

Lastly, if you plan on backing up large files to an iPad, make sure that the iPad has enough available disk space on it. I know it seems obvious, but I'd hate for you to get the camera kit, test it for compatibility, get to WDW, and then realize that your iPad only has 1 or 2 Gigs of free disk space.

I do not think she has used any of it unless apps are a robber. The 2 yr old will be going her first trip and seems since she was born she has been infatuated with all things Disney, never been, Just loves the es (princess) oh and Goosey She doesnt talk very clear yet and will be three in June. I cannot wait to see her face and thats why Mm wants a ton of storage. She is the only thing that uses the pad..Looks up Disney on you tube and now is infatuated with making Disney cakes.. go figure. just stares at it.I think she is going to take it in if they have one and make sure its good to go before getting it. If not then go with more cards. Thanks again.
